New York's Road Woes Continue
The New York Knicks are still one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference this season, but they will have to finally win a road game to make that dream become a reality. The Knicks have eight wins so far this season, but all have come at home, as they have lost all four of their road outings to start the year. New York has lost two of their last three coming into this matchup, and recently split their last two games against the Heat. In their last game against Miami, the Knicks lost by two despite getting 25 points from Miles McBride on the night.
McBride has been their spark off the bench over the past two seasons, and is averaging 10.0 PPG this season as an outside shooter. He is their first guard off the bench, and is knocking down 38.0% of his three point attempts this season. Jalen Brunson is their top scorer, as he is averaging 28.0 PPG this season, but is questionable for this game as he is still bothered by an ankle injury and is listed a sa gametime decision. Karl-Anthony Towns is still a double-double machine, as the 30-year-old post player is averaging 21.8 PPG and 12.7 RPG while having the ability to make 2.0 threes per game. OG Anunoby will miss this game, as his hamstring injury is worse than was earlier expected.
Mikal Bridges is a long wing adding 15.6 PPG on the perimeter, and is also one of the best defenders on the team. Landry Shamet and Mitchell Robinson started the last game, and will likely open this matchup against the Mavericks. The Knicks rank 3rd in offensive efficiency and 14th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. New York is 21st in the league in possessions per game.

- Out: OG Anunoby
- Questionable: Jalen Brunson
Mavericks Lose Four of Five
The Dallas Mavericks plan to rebuild their franchise has not been going well. The Luka Doncic trade has been a clear disaster, as they fired general manager Nico Harrison over it, and have not gotten the returns they hoped for. They got lucky in the NBA Lottery, winning the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes, but the young star from Duke is still not ready to be a star in the league, and is slightly behind other rookies in terms of production. In their last game, Jaden Hardy led the team with 17 points off the bench in the loss to Minnesota.
Hardy is one of their several scoring guards off the bench, but at 5.9 PPG, he is not a player who is heavily relied upon for a scoring punch. The Mavericks are still dealing with an injury to Anthony Davis, the star big man has only played in five games this season as he has been bothered by a calf injury, and will miss this outing with New York. This leaves rookie Cooper Flagg as their top scorer. The 18-year-old is getting 15.5 PPG and 6.3 RPG this season, but has been forced to play the point guard position as the Mavericks are running low on options with Kyrie Irving out of the lineup.
Other top contributors will include P.J. Washington (15.0 PPG) and D'Angelo Russell (11.9 PPG). The Mavericks are ranked 29th in offensive efficiency and 18th in defensive efficiency. Dallas ranks 2nd in the league in possessions per game, making them one of the fastest teams in the association.
Injury Report for Mavericks
- Out: Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Dante Exum
- Questionable: Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford
Knicks vs. Mavericks Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Knicks vs. Mavericks
- Knicks to cover (5 units)
The injuries are piling up for Dallas, and this game will result in too big of a mismatch on the interior to stay competitive. Anthony Davis is out, but that has been baked into the line already. The additional information is that both Lively and Gafford are listed as questionable, meaning Dallas has a very thin front line going against Karl-Anthony Towns who has been one of the best bigs in the league over the past several seasons. Dallas is still trying Flagg at point, which is an optimistic disservice to the young star, as he is far more suited on the wing. Brunson might play here, but even if he doesn't, the Knicks still have too much talent to ignore in this game as Dallas is struggling to find wins.
Take the Knicks to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Knicks vs. Mavericks
- Over (4 units)
Pace of play, and post defense - these are two of the most important factors when deciding if a game will go over or under the total, and both point heavily to the over here. First, the Mavericks play fast, they are second in the league in pace of play, and will speed this game up hoping to create chaos as the underdog. New York will play faster than usual as well, as Jalen Brunson has been known to play isolation ball which can sometimes result in longer possessions. Dallas could potentially be without three of their top big men, as Davis is out, and Likely and Gafford are questionable. This will grant free lanes to the rack for New York, and Towns has far more offense in his game than defense. This will be a high scoring game.
Take the over.
