Gordon's injury has slowed the Nuggets down some
Denver started this road trip off with a 135-120 win over Indiana as an 8-point favorite. They have two more games left on the road, facing Charlotte and Sacramento on Dec. 7 and 11, respectively, so they have some rest and are facing some subpar competition on this trip aside from Atlanta. Jamal Murray had a spectacular game with 52 points on 19-of-25 shooting and an incredible 11 of 11 from beyond the arc to lead them over the Pacers. Nikola Jokic added 24 points, 13 assists, and eight rebounds. Murray was listed as questionable after spraining his ankle in Denver's previous game against Dallas (131-121).
The Nuggets have a good record at 15-6, but since Aaron Gordon injured his hamstring in a 112-109 road win on Nov. 21 over Houston, the Nuggets are 3-3. Gordon was averaging 18.8 points per game and was shooting a career-high 44.4% from long range and 53.2% from the field in 13 games before the injury. With Gordon out, they've needed wing Cam Johnson to step up offensively. He's averaging 11.1 points this season, but in the six games since Gordon was injured, he's averaging 16.7 points per game. F Spencer Jones (knee), who started against Indiana, was injured and did not return.
Jokic leads the team with 28.7 points per game, 12.6 rebounds and 11.1 assists on 61.6% shooting (43% 3pt). Murray adds 24.7 points and 6.6 assists. DunksandThrees.com has the Nuggets ranked third overall, first in Adjusted Offensive Rating, and 20th in Adjusted Defensive Rating.

Offense goes cold for the last two games
Atlanta is coming off two straight losses to Detroit, 99-98 on the road and 115-92 to the LA Clippers at home on Dec. 3. In the loss to the Clippers, the Hawks shot just 40% from the field as Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the team with 21 points. Dyson Daniels added 15 and shot 6-of-13 from the field. Help could be on its way as the Hawks are rumored to be involved in a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Atlanta isn't playing poorly, but they miss Young (17.8pp, 7.8apg, 5gp), who could be out until 2026 with a knee injury. In the Clippers' loss, they also missed forward Jalen Johnson, who just put up 70 points in his previous two games due to a calf injury. Johnson is averaging 23.2 points per game, 10.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists, while shooting 53.9% from the field and 41.2% from beyond the arc.
The Hawks are ranked 15th by DunksandThrees.com, 19th in Adjusted Offense and 8th in Adjusted Defense. Their biggest weakness is on the boards, where they rank 26th in rebound rate.
Key Injuries for Hawks:
- C Kristaps Porzingis (illness) is questionable.
- G Trae Young (knee) is out indefinitely. All-Star point guard
- F Jalen Johnson (calf) is questionable. Leading scorer

Spread Pick for Denver vs. Atlanta
Nuggets vs. Hawks prediction and pick
- Denver -6 (4 units)
Atlanta is a mess right now, with no Young and Jalen Johnson dealing with a calf injury. Even with Gordon out, Denver still has Jokic and Murray, the best scoring combination in the league. They also don't mind going on the road, where they shoot 51.2% from the field and 39.7% from long range. The Hawks are not very good defensively at home, allowing teams to shoot 464% from the field. Porzinigis may also be out for a chance, so that means Onyeka Okongwu (6-10, 240) will have to try and defend Joker (6-11, 284). Good luck.
- Over 238.5 (4 units)
Denver has gone over in six straight and eight of their last nine games. Atlanta is 8-4 Over in their last 12 games. The Hawks are eighth in the NBA in pace of play. Denver is more methodical, but that hasn't impacted their totals because they are the top-rated offensive team in the league and 20th in Adjusted Defense.
