Thunder rolling, even without Williams
The Thunder have started 3-0, with overtime wins over the Rockets and Pacers and a 117-100 triumph over the Hawks on Saturday. Oklahoma City ranks 13th in offensive rating and fourth in defensive rating while playing at the league’s 11th-fastest pace.
The offense continues to run through reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been dominant, averaging 40 points, six rebounds, five assists, and nearly two steals per game, although the overtime games have helped boost his numbers. Chet Holmgren has been strong inside, averaging 24.7 points and 10 rebounds while providing a presence on both ends of the floor. After playing in only 36 regular-season games and averaging 3.4 points in 12 playoff games last season, Ajay Mitchell has put his name in the early running for the most improved player award off the bench with 18.7 points and 4.3 assists per game, while Aaron Wiggins has chipped in points and five rebounds per contest.

What’s scary for the rest of the NBA is that Jalen Williams, who averaged 21.6 ppg last season, has not missed the first three games, and the team is still unbeaten. Williams will also not play against Dallas. Joining Williams on the injured list are Alex Caruso, who is out with a concussion, and Chet Holmgren (back) is listed as day to day.
Mavs are playing on a back-to-back
After opening the season with a 32-point loss to the Spurs and a 10-point loss to the Wizards, the Mavericks finally got into the win column by beating the Toronto Raptors 139-129 yesterday. The numbers have not been impressive early as Dallas ranks 28th in offensive rating, 17th in pace, and 18th defensively.
The Mavericks are without Kyrie Irving, who is still recovering from his ACL injury and is not slated to return before January. So far, Anthony Davis has led the team in scoring in each game, averaging 24.7 points, 12 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.7 blocks, but the supporting cast has been inconsistent.
P.J. Washington is second on the team, providing 17.3 points and seven rebounds per game, while rookie Cooper Flagg is already putting up 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. It has been a sluggish start for Klay Thompson, who is only putting up 9.3 points while shooting 37% from the floor and 26.7% from three.

With the offensive struggles the Mavericks are facing, this one could get ugly, especially after playing yesterday. The Mavericks had success against the Thunder last season, but I think that's only more reason why the Thunder should come in focused. Take OKC.
