The Thunder aim for their 13th straight win
The OKC Thunder (20-1; 10-11 ATS; 11-10 O/U) are having a ridiculous season. Their lone loss came at the Portland Trail Blazers 121-119 on November 5. Since then, the reigning NBA champions have won 12 consecutive games.
Last Sunday, the Thunder beat the Trail Blazers 123-115 as 11.5-point road favorites. OKC held Portland to 39.3% shooting from the field (16-for-49 from deep). The Thunder hit just 10 of their 29 shots from deep, but they outscored the Blazers 56-36 in the paint.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 26 points last Sunday. He averaged 31.9 points and 6.9 assists in November. Jalen Williams (wrist) made his season debut last Friday, notching 11 points and eight assists in a 123-119 win to the Phoenix Suns. Williams had 16 points and eight rebounds against the Blazers.
The Thunder score 120.1 points per 100 possessions (5th in the NBA) and allow just 104.9 points in return (1st). They cannot count on Isaiah Hartenstein (12.2 PPG, 10.7 RPG), while Alex Caruso (5.7 PPG) is questionable for Tuesday’s game against Golden State.
The Warriors hope to stay on track
The Golden State Warriors (11-10; 10-11 ATS; 13-8 O/U) went 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS last week. After stopping their three-game slide with a 134-117 victory to the lowly Utah Jazz, the Warriors suffered a 104-100 defeat to the Houston Rockets this past Wednesday.
The Warriors returned to winning ways last Saturday, beating the hapless New Orleans Pelicans 104-96 as 9.5-point home favorites. Golden State held New Orleans to 37.2% shooting from the field (7-for-30 from deep). The Warriors went 12-for-47 from downtown while committing just 10 turnovers.
Jimmy Butler tortured the Pelicans for 24 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. Gary Payton II double-doubled with 19 points and 11 boards, and Brandin Podziemski added 15 points and six assists. Stephen Curry missed the Pelicans game due to a quadriceps injury, and he’ll be re-evaluated in one week.
The Warriors score 114.1 points per 100 possessions (21st in the NBA) and surrender 113.2 points in return (8th). They lead the league in 3-point rate (.506) and rank 14th in 3-point percentage (35.9%).
Thunder vs. Warriors Pick
Spread Pick for Thunder vs. Warriors
- OKC Thunder -11.5 (4 units)
Without Stephen Curry, the Warriors will have a mountain to climb in this game. Isaiah Hartenstein’s absence is a huge blow for the Thunder, but the Warriors will miss their best player, who’s capable of beating any team in the league on his own.
As I said, Oklahoma City is having a ridiculous season. The Thunder’s defense is the best in the league by far. On the other side of the floor, the Thunder turn the ball over on just 11.2% of their possessions (2nd in the NBA) while making 57.7% of their 2-pointers (4th) and 36.2% of their 3-pointers (12th).
OKC went 16-for-36 from downtown in that 24-point victory over the Warriors in November. The Thunder held Stephen Curry to 11 points and forced the Warriors into 21 turnovers. I expect OKC to beat Golden State once more and cover the spread along the way.
Over/Under Pick for Thunder vs. Warriors
- Under 222 (4 units)
The over has hit in 11 of the previous 12 encounters between Oklahoma City and Golden State. If you like to ride the betting trends, you won’t have a dilemma in this game.
I won’t ride that head-to-head betting trend. The Warriors are without Steph Curry, who’s arguably the best shooter of all time. Golden State will continue to lean on 3-pointers, but I’m not sure the Warriors will score enough to push the total over the line.
The Warriors are a solid defensive team. If they want to beat OKC, the Warriors will have to bring their best defense and take good care of the ball. Neither team plays at a fast pace, but the Warriors have been turnover-prone this season (26th in turnover percentage, 14.2%).
