Thunder vs. Suns prediction

Oklahoma City Thunder (30-5) vs. Phoenix Suns (20-14)

The NBA betting action goes on Sunday, January 4, 2026, with the eight-game card, including the Western Conference showdown at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, AZ, so here’s our Thunder vs. Suns prediction.

The Thunder meet the Suns for the third time this season. Oklahoma City is undefeated in eight straight encounters with Phoenix, and the last time they met, the Thunder dismantled the Suns 138-89 as 15.5-point home favorites on December 10, 2025.

Will OKC extend its dominance over Phoenix? Read more about this Thunder vs. Suns prediction, and make sure to check out all our NBA picks for Sunday’s slate. The tip-off at Mortgage Matchup Center is set at 8:00 PM ET.

The Thunder eye their fifth straight win

The Oklahoma City Thunder (30-5; 19-16 ATS; 18-17 O/U) are back on track. After consecutive defeats against the San Antonio Spurs in December, 130-110 and 117-102, the Thunder have gone 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS.

During that four-game stretch, the Thunder have beaten the Philadelphia 76ers 129-104, the Atlanta Hawks 140-129, the Portland Trail Blazers 124-95, and the Golden State Warriors 131-94. Last Friday, OKC trounced Golden State, covering a 13.5-point spread on the road with ease.

The injury-depleted Warriors couldn’t cope with the Thunder, who went 16-for-38 from downtown and 19-for-19 from the foul line. OKC outscored Golden State 56-28 in the paint, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 30 points and seven assists.

Gilgeous-Alexander tallies 32.1 points and 6.4 assists per game, and the Thunder score 120.7 points per 100 possessions (5th in the NBA). OKC leans on its stout defense, yielding just 105.6 points per 100 possessions (1st).

The Suns shoot for their fourth straight home W

The Phoenix Suns (20-14; 23-11 ATS; 16-18 O/U) are arguably one of the most pleasant surprises of the season. At the moment, the Suns are holding the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. They’ve won five of their previous six games overall while going 5-1 against the spread.

After putting an end to their four-game winning streak with a 129-113 defeat at the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Suns cruised past the Sacramento Kings 129-102 this past Friday. Phoenix committed nine fewer turnovers than Sacramento (21-12) and outscored the Kings 66-46 in the paint.

The Suns made just eight of their 31 shots from deep last Friday, but they took full advantage of the Kings’ horrible interior defense. Devin Booker led the way with 33 points and five assists, while Mark Williams had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Booker posts 25.7 points and 6.3 assists per game, and the Suns score 116.2 points per 100 possessions (tied for 11th in the NBA). Their defense has been surprisingly solid thus far, allowing 114.1 points per 100 possessions (9th).

Spread Pick for Thunder vs. Suns

  • Oklahoma City Thunder (4 units)

The Suns have been a covering machine this season, but it’s really hard to go against the Thunder, who beat Phoenix by 49 points less than a month ago. The Thunder are 8-0 SU and 7-1 ATS in their last eight dates with the Suns, and I will ride this betting trend.

OKC is a great rebounding team, and the Thunder’s defense has been ridiculous thus far. They possess great depth, which allows the Thunder to play aggressive defense for all 48 minutes.

The Thunder might miss Isaiah Hartenstein (11.2 PPG, 10.4 RPG), who’s in danger of sitting out his fourth straight game with a calf injury. On the other side, the Suns are without Jalen Green (15.5 PPG), while Grayson Allen (16.3 PPG) is listed as doubtful.

Over/Under Pick for Thunder vs. Suns

  • Under (4 units)

OKC holds its rivals to 47.9% shooting from inside the arc (1st in the NBA) and ranks 3rd in the league in defensive rebound percentage (75.9%). The Thunder have multiple weapons to contain Devin Booker, so I’m going with the under.

The Suns’ defense is 19th in 2-point percentage (55.1%) and 10th in 3-point percentage (35.6%). It ranks second in defensive turnover percentage (15.1%), right behind OKC (15.7%). The Suns have to slow things down and try to take good care of the ball, or they will be in trouble.

In that ugly loss at OKC in December, the Suns committed 21 turnovers and shot 39.3% from the field (10-for-31 from deep), though they missed Devin Booker.
