Oklahoma City attempting to win back-to-back NBA titles

The Oklahoma City Thunder have battled injuries this season, but their roster depth has them in good position to defend their NBA title. The Thunder are looking to become the first team to repeat as champion since the Golden State Warriors achieved the feat in 2018. Oklahoma City leads the league in defensive efficiency by Hollinger's NBA Team Statistics and is limiting opponents to 107.5 points per game. The Thunder have won 26 of their first 34 road games and are three games clear of San Antonio for the top spot in the Western Conference. On Wednesday, Oklahoma City held Brooklyn to 24 points in the first half to run away with a 121-92 road victory.

Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ranks second in the NBA in scoring at 31.5 points per game and leads Oklahoma City in assists (6.6 apg). Talented F Jalen Williams has appeared in just 26 games and is averaging 17.5 points. Chet Holmgren is third on the Thunder in scoring with 17.2 points per contest and is securing a team-best 8.9 rebounds.

Washington hoping to turn the corner sooner than later

The Washington Wizards have been the doormat of the NBA for the last few years and hope to turn things around as early as next season. The Wizards have not finished with a winning record since 2018 and are looking to crack the 20-win mark for the first time in the last three seasons. Washington ranks second worst in the league in defensive efficiency by Hollinger's NBA Team Statistics and is surrendering 123.7 points per contest. The Wizards have dropped 25 of their first 36 home games and could finish with the worst record in the league. On Thursday, Washington was outscored by 21 points in the first quarter and committed 19 turnovers during a 117-95 home loss versus Detroit.

Former number two overall draft pick Alex Sarr has shown flashes of his potential and leads Washington in scoring at 16.5 points per game. Sarr also leads the team in rebounds (7.4 rpg) and blocks (2.0 bpg). Trae Young (20.8 ppg) was acquired in a trade deadline deal from Atlanta and has appeared in just five games. F Kyshawn George (14.8 ppg) and G Bilal Coulibaly (11.0 ppg) give the Wizards hope for the future.

Key Injury Report for Washington:

  • Bilal Coulibaly (DTD) - heel
  • Leaky Black (out) - ankle
  • Trae Young (out) - quad
