Sixers vs. Hawks prediction and pick

Two teams with a huge amount of injuries face each other in this 76ers vs. Hawks prediction. Despite the various injuries, Philadelphia is 14-10 after beating Indiana on Friday night. Atlanta is 14-12 after getting crushed by Detroit on the road by 27 as a 7-point dog on Friday. The Hawks beat the Sixers in their only meeting this season on Nov. 30, 142-134 in overtime on the road as a 3-point dog. The early odds have Atlanta as a 4.5-point favorite with a total of 228.5. No Maxey, No problem for Sixers

Philadelphia is coming off a 115-105 win over the Pacers on Friday as a 5-point favorite. This win didn't mean that they are a contender, but that they could win without star guard Tyrese Maxey, who was out with an illness. Maxey is listed as doubtful, while C Joel Embiid (injury management) is listed as questionable. Embiid was back to his dominant self on Friday with 39 points and nine boards, while Paul George added 23 points, six rebounds and five dimes against the Pacers.

Embiid has played in just 10 games and is averaging 20.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and is shooting just 42.4% from the field. Maxey has been fantastic with 31.5 points, 7.2 assists while shooting 39.1% from long range.

According to DunksandThrees.com, Philly is ranked 15th in Net Rating, 18th in Adjusted Offense and 12th in Adjusted Defense.

Key Injury Report for Sixers:

  • G T. Maxey (illness) is doubtful.
  • C J. Embiid (load/knee management) is questionable.
  • G Kelly Oubre Jr. (knee) is out.

Hawks are struggling without Young

Atlanta is around .500 without Trae Young, who has been out since late October with a knee injury. At one point, they were five games over .500, but have lost four of their last five games. In Friday's 27-point loss to Detroit, Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the Hawks with 22 points, while Jalen Johnson added 19 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.

Alexander-Walker (20.7ppg) and Johnson (23.2ppg, 10.5rpg, 8apg) have really stepped up with Young on the sidelines. They could use more from center Kristaps Porzingis (19.2ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.6bpg), who has played in just 13 games due to various ailments. Unfortunately for Atlanta, he's listed as out due to an illness.

Atlanta is ranked 14th in Adjusted Net Rating on DunksandThrees.com, and 13th in Adjusted Offense and Defense.

Spread Pick for Sixers vs. Hawks

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Atlanta Hawks Pick and Prediction

  • Atlanta -4.5 (5 units)

We know that Trae Young won't play. Maxey will likely sit this one out, and Embiid, for some reason, is listed as questionable, although the Sixers do not play until Dec. 19. There's an edge for the Hawks, though, as Onyeka Okongwu has produced 16 points and 7.2 rebounds per game at center with Porzingis out. Atlanta is 10-6 at home and 4-6 on the road. They have also beaten Philadelphia six straight times and covered in five of those last six games.

Total Pick for 76ers vs. Hawks

  • Under 228.5 (4 units)

Philly wants that slow pace and with Maxey out, they'll get it because he's one of the fastest guards in the league. Also, they have aging Paul George, who, at 35, prefers the methodical pace. The Sixers are 18th in pace of play, while Atlanta plays faster. Philadelphia has gone under in five straight games.
