The Phoenix Suns head to Intuit Dome in Inglewood, CA, on Saturday night to square off against the Los Angeles Clippers in the Pacific Division showdown with the tip-off at 10:30 PM ET, so here’s our Suns vs. Clippers prediction along with the latest team stats and news.
This is already the third meeting of the season between the Suns and Clippers. LA trounced Phoenix 129-102 at Intuit Dome in the opening week, and the Suns responded last Thursday, beating the Clippers 115-102 at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix.
Now, let’s take a closer look at this Suns vs. Clippers prediction, one of our NBA picks for Saturday’s slate.
The Suns are heating up
The Phoenix Suns (4-5; 5-4 ATS; 5-4 O/U) have won three of their last four games overall to bounce back from a rough start to the season. After consecutive wins to the Utah Jazz 118-96 and the San Antonio Spurs 130-118 and a 118-107 loss at the Golden State Warriors, the Suns beat the Clippers as 2.5-point home favorites.

Jalen Green made his Suns debut last Thursday, dropping 29 points on the Clippers. Devin Booker had 24 points and seven assists, while Mark Williams double-doubled with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Suns outscored the Clippers 40-23 in the third quarter, finishing the game with 19 triples and just 26 points in the paint.
Phoenix leans on its 3-point shooting. The Suns are fourth in the NBA in 3-point rate (.476) and 12th in 3-point percentage (37.5%). They score 115.3 points per 100 possessions (17th in the league) and surrender 116.8 points in return (tied for 19th).
Something’s wrong with the Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers (3-5; 1-7 ATS; 5-3 O/U) have only won one of their last five games overall. They are on a three-game losing streak following Thursday’s defeat at the Suns. In their previous two showings, the Clippers have lost to the Miami Heat 120-119 and the Oklahoma City Thunder 126-107.
Both Kawhi Leonard (ankle) and James Harden (personal) missed Thursday’s clash in Phoenix, and Kawhi didn’t suit up for the OKC game either. Ivica Zubac led the way against the Suns, posting a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Cam Christie scored 17 points off the bench.
Bradley Beal had just five points in 20 minutes on the floor last Thursday, going 2-for-14 from the field. Beal has been an absolute disaster for the Clippers, averaging 7.4 points and 1.4 assists. The Clippers score 114.3 points per 100 possessions (20th in the NBA) and allow 119.1 points in return (25th).
Suns vs. Clippers Pick
Spread Pick for Suns vs. Clippers
- Phoenix Suns (4 units)
As I said above, something’s wrong with the Clippers. Their defense has been awful thus far, and the Clippers allow 16.6 3-pointers per 100 possessions (30th in the NBA) on a 39.3 percentage clip (27th).
The Suns went 19-for-49 from downtown last Thursday, and Phoenix will lean on 3-pointers once more. I expect the Suns to keep it close down the stretch, even if Kawhi Leonard and James Harden return to the lineup.
The Clippers desperately need their best players on the floor. Bradley Beal has been slumping big-time, and the Clippers are turning the ball over on 16.0 percent of their possessions, which is the worst record in the league by far.
Over/Under Pick for Suns vs. Clippers
- Over (4 units)
The Suns are 20th in the league in pace. They register 100.0 possessions per 48 minutes, while the Clippers play at the second-slowest pace in the NBA, tallying just 96.7 possessions per 48 minutes.
The Clippers are turnover-prone, but they lean on 3-pointers a lot, too. LA is 12th in the league in 3-point rate (.441) and 14th in 3-point percentage (37.0%).
Hereof, I will take the over on the total. Both teams have struggled to defend so far this season, especially the Clippers, whose 3-point defense has been terrible. The over is 8-3 in the last 11 encounters between Phoenix and LA.
