In the regular-season finale, Phoenix (44-37) takes on Oklahoma City (64-17) on Sunday in this Western Conference matchup and Suns vs. Thunder prediction. These teams have met three times this season, with the Thunder winning twice SU and ATS. They last met on Feb. 11 with OKC winning 136-109 from Phoenix. The Thunder have clinched the Western Conference, while Phoenix is stuck in seventh in the play-in tournament. Check out more free NBA picks on Sunday at Winners and Whiners.

Suns gearing up for the Play-In Tournament

This has been a wildly inconsistent season, which could still end up in the playoffs if they beat Portland or the LA Clippers in the first game of the play-in tournament. Star guard Devin Booker (ankle) missed their last game against the Lakers, and the injury-depleted Los Angeles squad destroyed them 101-73 on Friday. However, the Suns played Collin Gillespie and Grayson Allen just in the first half and held out Jalen Green (knee) as well.

Green averages 17.8 points while shooting 42.2% from the field. When the Suns are healthy, they have a lot of good offensive pieces led by Booker (26.1 ppg, 6 apg), Brooks (20.2 ppg, 43.5% FG) and Allen (16.5 ppg). Mark Williams (11.7 ppg, 8 rpg) provides some rim protection up front. Despite the offensive talent, the Suns are shooting just 45.4% from the field (28th). According to DunksandThrees.com, Phoenix ranks 16th in Adjusted Net Rating, 18th in Adjusted Offensive Rating, and 10th in Adjusted Defense.

OKC going for a repeat

The Thunder have won 64 games and look like the best franchise in basketball right now. That doesn't mean the Western Conference will be easy to overtake. Oklahoma City won eight straight games heading into its game at Denver on Friday night, but fell 127-107. That loss came with OKC resting most of their key players, including Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Isaiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso.

SGA leads the way with 31.1 points and 6.6 assists, while Holmgren adds 17.1 points and 8.9 rebounds with 1.9 blocks. The key is the health of Jalen Williams, who has played in just 33 games, but averages 17.1 points and 5.5 assists. This Thunder team has few weaknesses, but one of them is three-point defense (36.7%), as they rank 24th in the NBA. DunksandThrees.com has them ranked first overall, first in Adjusted Defense and seventh in Adjusted Offense.

Spread Pick and Odds for Suns vs. Thunder

Suns vs. Thunder Picks and Prediction

  • OKC -5 (5 units)

This is going to be the battle of the backups. There's no reason for either team to play their starters for this one, but if you're going to go with a team in this matchup, the OKC makes the most sense because they have the best bench in the NBA. In their loss to Denver, their third-string center Ben Carlson scored 23 points and pulled down 12 boards. Aaron Wiggins (13pts) can start for most teams and Lu Dort is an elite defender. They were actually competitive in that Denver game, trailing by just six points headed into the fourth quarter.

Over/Under Pick for Suns vs. Thunder

  • Under 213.5 (4 units)

The total is never easy and it's not like you can use tempo stats because this game will be full of players who rarely log big minutes. Phoenix has gone under in two straight and three of their last four games. Even with their backups, the Thunder will play defense. They allow just 43.6% shooting at home to rank first in the NBA and 106.7 points per game at home. The Suns average just 112.6 points per game and shoot 42.9% from the field away from home.
