Phoenix Battles the East
It is road trip season for the Phoenix Suns, as they are playing six consecutive games on the road against Eastern Conference opponents. This meeting with Philadelphia will be the fifth stop on their journey, as they have already lost in Miami and Detroit, before sneaking out a win in New York against the Knicks before heading to Indiana. The Suns are 7th in the West, but only a half game out of that 6th spot which would get them out of the Play-In Tournament. In their win over New York, they were led by Devin Booker with 27 points in the win.
Booker is a 4-time All-Star, was an All-NBA player in 2022 and 2024, and has a strong chance of getting another All-Star nod as he is averaging 25.3 PPG and 6.4 APG, leading Phoenix in both categories. Unfortunately for Phoenix, it is unclear if he will play in this game as he is listed as questionable with soreness in his ankle. If Booker cannot go, the top scorer becomes Dillon Brooks who has significantly improved his scoring this season to 20.7 PPG. Brooks is best known as a defensive pest, who will likely try to battle Maxey on the perimeter. Mark Williams plays strong inside, he had 14 points and nine boards against the Knicks, and is averaging 12.3 PPG and 8.3 RPG as their starting center.
Royce O'Neale starts at the forward spot while averaging 10.5 PPG, with Collin Gillespie (13.2 PPG) and Grayson Allen (16.4 PPG) both getting significant minutes in the backcourt. Phoenix is ranked 10th in offensive efficiency and 8th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Suns play relatively slow on offense, ranking only 22nd in the league in possessions per game.

76ers Drop Three of Four
The Philadelphia 76ers are in danger of falling deeper in the Eastern Conference standings if they cannot turn things around quickly, as they have lost three of their last four games. That span only featured two opponents, as they split two games in Toronto against the Raptors, then got beat at home twice by the Cavaliers. The 76ers are 6th in the East, but do not want to fall lower to put their playoff spot in jeopardy. In their second game against Cleveland, Philly lost by two despite getting 33 points from Joel Embiid.
Injuries have seem to take a toll on Embiid, as he no longer can play at an MVP level for long durations. He is still an excellent player when he can get it going, as he is still averaging 24.0 PPG and 6.9 RPG in the middle. We cannot guarantee Embiid will play here, as he is listed as questionable for the Indiana game, and the medical staff is still monitoring his knee issues. Tyrese Maxey is now the top player for Philly, he is averaging 30.3 PPG which is 3rd in the NBA. Maxey also averages 6.7 APG and is an excellent three point shooter converting 3.7 attempts per game on 40.7% shooting from deep. Paul George is back in the lineup, he is contributing 15.9 PPG.
VJ Edgecombe has been everything Philly hoped he would become when they drafted him as 3rd overall in the draft, the athletic guard has been starting since day one and is getting 15.7 PPG and 5.3 RPG. Quentin Grimes provides their best scoring punch off the bench with 14.0 PPG. Philly ranks 11th in offensive efficiency and 10th in defensive efficiency. They play faster than Phoenix, ranking 11th in the league in possessions per game.

Suns vs. 76ers Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Suns vs. 76ers
- Suns to cover (5 units)
This is a tough spot for both teams, as each squad is on the tail end of a back to back, and several big names listed on the injury report. If you like the Suns like I do, get the bet in early, because there is a high probability we don't see Joel Embiid or Paul George in this game, as Philly needs to keep their veterans healthy and won't risk throwing them out there two nights in a row. This leaves Maxey with a slew of role players to try to take down this underrated Phoenix team. Booker will likely be able to play, he has been consistently on the floor this year while playing in 38 games. Brooks will be a problem defensively, and if Embiid cannot go, Mark Williams becomes the best center in this game. Take the Suns and grab a cover here.
Take Phoenix to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Suns vs. 76ers
- Over (5 units)
This is a spot where the public typically gets it wrong. The popular idea is that teams will be tired on their second game in two nights, and while that part is true, it is the defense that gets affected more than the offense. Teams have to go deeper into their bench, but NBA players will always give their all on offense, while defensive chemistry is harder to figure out on the fly with new rotations. Philadelphia plays fast, and if Embiid cannot go, look for Maxey to push the pace every possession. This will be a high scoring battle.
Take the over.
