The Suns look for a bounce-back performance
The Phoenix Suns (11-7; 12-6 ATS; 8-10 O/U) have only dropped two of their previous 10 games overall. Last Monday, the Suns put an end to their three-game winning streak with a 114-92 home defeat against the Houston Rockets.
Phoenix made just 41.2% of its field goals against Houston. The Suns had a really bad day in the office, posting a horrendous 11/21 assist-to-turnover ratio. Dillon Brooks was a lone bright spot with 29 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field.
The Suns were quite shorthanded last Monday, as Mark Williams (12.3 PPG, 8.4 RPG) and Ryan Dunn (8.4 PPG, 4.8 RPG) joined Grayson Allen (18.5 PPG) and Jalen Green (15.5 PPG) on the sidelines. Williams should return Wednesday. Green will miss a few more weeks, while Dunn and Allen are doubtful for Wednesday’s game against Sacramento.
The Suns score 117.4 points per 100 possessions (11th in the NBA) and allow 113.7 points in return (12th). They are third in the league in 3-point percentage (38.1%) and offensive rebound percentage (30.4%).
The Kings aim for their third straight W
The Sacramento Kings (5-13; 7-11 ATS; 9-9 O/U) are not dead yet. After stopping their eight-game losing streak with a 128-123 victory at the Denver Nuggets, the Kings defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-112 in overtime this past Monday.
The Kings stunned the Nuggets as 11-point underdogs. Against the Timberwolves, Sacramento was a 10.5-point home dog. The Kings’ offense lifted the team over Denver, while their defense was excellent against Minnesota.
Sacramento held Minnesota to 41.2% shooting from the field (13-for-42 from deep). The Kings outscored the T-Wolves 58-48 in the paint while going 26-for-28 from the foul line. DeMar DeRozan led the way with a season-high 33 points.
The Kings score just 109.9 points per 100 possessions (27th in the NBA) and surrender 121.0 points in return (26th). They are 17th in the league in 3-point percentage (35.8%) and 10th in defensive rebound percentage (74.0%). The Kings are without Domantas Sabonis (17.2 PPG, 12.3 RPG).
Suns vs. Kings Pick
Spread Pick for Suns vs. Kings
- Phoenix Suns (4 units)
The Kings’ defensive display against Minnesota looks like an outlier. Their defense has been awful all season, and the Kings rank 29th in the NBA in opposing 2-point percentage (60.9%).
The Suns can only play better than they did against the mighty Rockets last Monday. The Kings cannot count on their best rebounder, and the Suns will continue to crush the offensive glass. The Suns’ defense is one of the most pleasant surprises of the season, so I’m going with Phoenix.
While the Kings are 0-2 in the NBA Cup, the Suns sit at 2-0 and have a great opportunity to reach the elimination phase.
Over/Under Pick for Suns vs. Kings
- Under (4 units)
The Kings play at a fast pace, tallying 101.6 possessions per 48 minutes (7th in the NBA), but they don’t rely on 3-pointers (29th in 3-point rate). On the other side, the Suns are 24th in the league in pace (99.1) and ninth in 3-point rate (.444).
The total looks like a tricky wager. I will go with the over because I don’t trust the Kings’ defense. Sacramento’s interior defense has been terrible thus far, but the Kings have weapons to hurt the Suns’ interior defense. We should see a lot of free throws in this game.
