In Splitter’s debut, the Blazers dismantled the Golden State Warriors 139-119 at Moda Center in Portland. The Blazers shot 53.8% from the field (16-for-34 from deep) and forced a whopping 25 turnovers. They outscored the Warriors 66-30 in the paint.
Deni Avdija tallied 20 points and seven rebounds against the Timberwolves. Against the Warriors, Avdija accounted for 26 points, six assists, and five rebounds, while Jerami Grant scored 22 points off the bench. Scoot Henderson (hamstring) missed the first games of the season and isn’t expected to play until mid-November.
The Lakers cannot count on Luka Doncic
The Los Angeles Lakers started the season with LeBron James on the sidelines. The 21-time All-Star is recovering from sciatica and won’t play until around mid-November. In LeBron’s absence, Luka Doncic has taken over, averaging 46.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 8.5 assists through the first two games of the season.
The Lakers suffered a 119-109 home loss against the Golden State Warriors in their season opener. Doncic dropped 43 points on the Warriors, but it wasn’t enough. Los Angeles committed 20 turnovers and made just eight of its 32 shots from beyond the 3-point line.
Last Friday, the Lakers cruised past the Minnesota Timberwolves 128-110 in front of the home fans. Los Angeles shot 59.2% from the field (12-for-29 from downtown), and Doncic tortured the Timberwolves for 49 points. Doncic missed Sunday night's game due to a finger injury and is questionable for this game.

Luka Doncic’s absence is a massive blow for the Lakers, so I have to look at the Trail Blazers. It’s a tough back-to-back spot for both teams, and I don’t trust the injury-depleted Lakers to get things done.
I noted how good Doncic has been in the Lakers’ first two games of the season. Frankly, replacing Doncic is impossible. The Trail Blazers played very well against the Warriors, and they will be fired up to take advantage of Luka’s absence.
If you like player props, keep your eyes on Austin Reaves. He’ll drive the Lakers’ offense in this game and take a ton of shots.

The Trail Blazers have been playing lightning fast thus far. The Lakers have to slow things down as much as possible if they want to beat Portland. They cannot allow the Blazers to dictate the tempo.
The Lakers play at the fifth-slowest pace in the NBA. With Luka Doncic on the shelf, the Lakers’ offense will be in big trouble, so I’m backing the under on the total. The Trail Blazers are not a bad defensive team, and neither side has been effective on the offensive glass so far this season.
