Trail Blazers vs. Heat Matchup
Blazers shock Thunder
Portland hasn't played since Wednesday at the Moda Center, but the Blazers were able to beat OKC 121-119 as a 3.5-point underdog. This was the Thunder's first loss of the season. The Trail Blazers were down 22 points in that contest, but found a way to come back thanks to Deni Avdija, who had 26 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, while Jrue Holiday added 22 points, including two free throws with six seconds left to go up by three points at 121-118.
The Blazers have won four of their last five games, with the lone defeat coming against the Lakers (123-115), who played without LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. But former Portland center DeAndre Ayton had his revenge, scoring 29 points, grabbing 10 boards and blocking three shots, while shooting 14 of 19 from the field.
It's been quite the start for the 24-year-old Avdija, who leads the team with 24.4 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, and is second in assists with 4.5. Holiday has added some defense, scoring (17.4ppg), and is leading the team with 7.6 assists per game.

Portland is shooting just 44.6% from the field (24th) and 33.8% from beyond the arc (21st), but they are converting 83.4% of their free throws. On defense, they rank 25th in field goal percentage by opponents (48.9%) and 21st in three-point defense (36.8%).\
Heat struggling with injuries for a change
Miami (before Friday) fell at Denver 122-112 on Wednesday. Norman Powell led the Heat with 23 points, while Andrew Wiggins added 22 points and five assists. All-Star center Bam Adebayo had just two points in eight minutes and led the game due to a foot injury. Fortunately for the Heat, the injury is not severe, but it's unclear how many games he will miss.
Miami could certainly use Adebayo with Tyler Herro (23.9ppg, 5.5apg last year) out due to off-season foot surgery. He should return in about two weeks. Adebayo is averaging 19.9 points and 8.1 rebounds, while shooting 45.2% from the field. Powell has been a welcome addition to the Heat as a strong perimeter shooter. He's producing 23.2 points and 5.2 rebounds, while shooting 51.7% from the three-point line. Wiggins adds 17 points and shoots 53.4% from the field.
The Heat are 4-4 on the season, but they are strong on both ends of the floor, averaging 122.5 points per game (4th), while shooting 49.5% from the field (8th) and 38.8% from long range (8th). Defensively, they are allowing 44.5% from the field and 33.6% from long range (6th).
Key Injuries and Analysis:
Portland:
- G Scoot Henderson (hamstring) is out.
Miami:
- All-Star starting center Bam Adebayo (toe) missed Friday night's game and is not likely to play in this game.
- G Tyler Herro (foot/ankle) is expected to return in mid-November.
Trail Blazers vs. Heat Pick
Spread Pick and Prediction for Portland Trail Blazers vs. Miami Heat
- Portland to cover the spread (4 units)
The Blazers are coming off a huge win, and they have two days to get over the emotional victory. I'm worried about Miami without Adebayo in the middle. Kel'el Ware is longer but not as strong or as talented on both ends of the floor. He's also just 21 years old and is still learning to play. Portland has the stronger bench with veteran forward Jerami Grant coming off, who is averaging 20.2 points and shooting 42.2% from three-point range. The loss of Adebayo and Herro is too much to overcome in this game.
- Over (4 units)
These are two of the fastest-paced teams in the league, according to DunksandThrees.com. Portland has gone over in straight and four of their last five games. Expect Portland to attack the basket with Adebayo out and attempt to get Ware in foul trouble beacuse the Heat are thin in the post.
