Portland Heads East
The Portland Trail Blazers have been quietly creeping up in the Western Conference standings, and will look to play strongly against a few teams from the East to keep that trend going. They begin their trip in Boston, before taking on the Wizards and Knicks all on the road. They have won four of their last five games, with their most recent game being the loss to Toronto. Portland is now ranked 9th in the West, ahead of some teams with much bigger names on their roster including the Clippers, Grizzlies and Mavericks.
In their last game against Toronto, Portland got 21 points from both Shaedon Sharpe and Jrue Holiday in the loss. Sharpe is one of their young prospects who can finish well above the rim, he is averaging 21.9 PPG, a career high number for the 22-year old. Holiday is their veteran presence, many expected he would leave Portland after being traded there, but he stuck around and is contributing 15.4 PPG and 7.1 APG. Their top player has been Deni Avdija, the 25-year old forward will push for an All-Star spot as he is getting 26.0 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 6.9 APG. Avdija is listed as a game time decision with a back issue.
The Blazers depth will be challenged, as they have eight players listed on their ESPN injury report. Jerami Grant (19.2 PPG) and Toumani Camara (13.0 PPG) are both slated to be available. Portland is ranked 24th in offensive efficiency and 18th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Blazers play fast, they rank 5th in the league in possessions per game.

Wizards Lose Ninth Straight
The Washington Wizards long for the days of John Wall or Gilbert Arenas, when they were able to make it to the playoffs and put up a strong fight. This year's Wizards team has not looked like that, as they are currently in last place in the East, and the the fewest wins of any NBA team at this point with ten. The Wizards are also battling injuries, most notably Trae Young, as the former All-Star has yet to suit up for his new team since coming over in the mid-season trade.
The top scorer that Washington will have available will be Alex Sarr, the former number two overall selection in 2024 has not yet blossomed in to a star, but the potential is still there. Sarr is still only 20 years old, and is averaging 17.4 PPG and 7.3 RPG while working to improve his perimeter game as a 7-footer. Kyshawn George will be listed as a game-time decision, the guard rolled his ankle in the Hornets loss, and the Wiz will be without another 15.5 PPG if he cannot go. Rookie Tre Johnson will play, his is scoring 12.9 PPG as a 6'5 wing at just 19-years old.
Bub Carrington will get time, he is still helping to run the point with Young out, and scored 9.9 PPG while adding 4.7 APG. Washington ranks 30th in offensive efficiency and 27th in defensive efficiency. They play slightly slower than Portland, ranking 12th in the league in possessions per game.

Trail Blazers vs. Wizards Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Trail Blazers vs. Wizards
- Β Trail Blazers to cover (5 units)
There are so many injuries in this game, lets just focus on the top three players for each team that we can expect to see on the floor. For the Blazers, Avdija, Grant and Holiday are all expected to play. Avdija is listed as a game time decision, but he has been durable this season. Meanwhile, Washington's top three would be Sarr, Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington. There is just not enough talent here to back the Wizards, they have the fewest wins in the NBA for a reason, and have not fared well against the spread either. Washington has only covered three of their last ten games. The Blazers have more experience and talent, and will cover the number here.
Take the Blazers to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Trail Blazers vs. Wizards
- Β Over (4 units)
The Blazers are on the tail end of a back to back, and the Wizards' roster is a mess. While some may think this leads to a low scoring game, the opposite will be true, as both teams will be far worse on the defensive end. The Blazers will be tired from their battle in Boston, but the team still has plenty of guys who can put the ball in the basket. Fatigue will set in on the other end, and as Portland goes deeper into their bench, the defensive chemistry gets worse. Washington will not be able to slow down the Blazers' offense, and will be forced to try to keep up offensively. Both teams are in the top half of the league in pace of play, expect points here.
Take the over.
