On Wednesday, the Houston Rockets will face the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum, and we have you ready to go with our Rockets vs. Grizzlies prediction, odds, and preview. Tip-off from Grind City is at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Houston is a 7.5-point spread favorite, and the game total is 233.5 points scored.

This is the first matchup of the season between these Western Conference opponents. Houston won three of its four games against Memphis last season. The Rockets are 6-4 straight-up and 7-3 against the spread in their last ten meetings with the Grizzlies. The over went 7-2-1 in those games. Rockets have been on an offensive tear

Houston (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS, and 4-2 O/U) beat Dallas 110-102 on Monday, its fourth consecutive victory. The Rockets were off the mark from three-point range (27.6%), but scored 62 points in the paint. They outrebounded the Mavericks 54-40, collecting 15 offensive rebounds. F Kevin Durant leads Houston in scoring, averaging 25.2 points per game. The Rockets score 124.8 points per game (2nd) on 49.6 percent shooting (9th), and their opponents average 112.3 points (5th) on 45.2 percent shooting (6th).

H-Town was 52-30 last season, finishing second in the West, but its strong regular-season performance didn't carry over into the playoffs, as the Rockets were bounced in the first round by Golden State. The poor postseason showing spurred changes in the offseason, as the front office decided the team's core wasn't strong enough to make a serious run in the coming seasons.

The biggest splash came via a seven-team trade, as the future Hall-of-Famer Durant was brought in to take the Rockets to new heights. Atlanta big man Clint Capela was also acquired in the historic deal, with Houston shipping away Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, and future draft picks to Phoenix. The move boosted the team's roster without breaking up its young core of Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., and Reed Sheppard.

Houston Rockets Basketball Injury Report: PF Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle) is day-to-day.

Memphis has been out of sync

Memphis (3-5 SU, 2-6 ATS, and 3-5 O/U) lost 114-106 to Detroit on Monday, its third straight defeat. The Grizzlies trailed by as many as 21, as they were out of rhythm and couldn't create easy looks around the rim (30 points in the paint). They rallied within three points with 3:09 left, but couldn't complete the comeback. PG Ja Morant leads the team in scoring at 20.4 points per game, and the Grizzlies average 115.5 points (15th) on 44.6 percent shooting (22nd). Their opponents average 120.5 points (23rd) on 49.2 percent shooting (25th).

The Grizzlies were 48-34 last season, finishing eighth in the NBA's Western Conference. They ranked second in the league in scoring (121.7 PPG), just 0.2 points off the lead. Morant (23.2), Jaren Jackson Jr. (22.2), and Desmond Bane (19.2) led the charge, and six others averaged between 8 and 12 points. Unfortunately for fans, Memphis lost its momentum down the stretch, dropping 10 of its final 16 games. The poor play led to the firing of head coach Taylor Jenkins, but the move didn't inspire change, as the Grizz were swept out of the playoffs in the first round by the Thunder.

Memphis lost Bane to Orlando in free agency, but made several intriguing moves that should boost the team's depth. Resigning Jackson Jr. was the team's top priority, especially after Bane's departure, and the additions of two-time champion Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and three-point threat Ty Jerome bring stability to the backcourt. The Grizzlies also traded for forward Cedric Coward, the 11th overall pick in the draft, who showed off a fluid three-point stroke, high motor, and rebounding prowess in college. At the end of the day, Memphis' season rests on the shoulders of Morant. The 26-year-old is one of the league's elite scorers and playmakers, but has missed too much time due to injuries and off-the-court issues.

Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Injury Report:Β The Grizzlies are playing without C Zach Edey (ankle), PG Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe), SG Ty Jerome (calf), and PF Brandon Clarke (knee).

Rockets vs. Grizzlies Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Rockets vs. Grizzlies

  • Memphis +7.5 (5 Units)

I feel confident Houston will win straight-up, but there's a good chance that Memphis keeps the game close. A 7.5-point spread is too large, in my opinion, as I believe the Grizzlies bottomed out in their last loss and will bounce back. They played terribly in most of that game, but rallied late to pull within a bucket, which should give them a confidence boost heading into Wednesday's game. Morant has been disgruntled since his suspension on Sunday, but I doubt he'll let it impact his play for much longer. Honestly, I don't want to bet against a ticked-off Ja. He's likely to put on a show if he's playing with a chip on his shoulder tomorrow.

Bet on the Grizz to cover!

Over/Under Pick for Rockets vs. Grizzlies

  • Over 233.5 (4 Units)

The Grizzlies play at the sixth-fastest pace in the NBA. While the Rockets are third-slowest, they have been comfortable against teams that sped them up this season, winning three of their four games that went over the total. They have been especially lethal from three-point range, shooting a league-leading 42.5 percent, up from just 35.3 percent last season (21st). They have an effective inside-out attack, with several bigs who can score in bunches in the paint, too. Memphis ranks 29th in rim defense and 25th in three-point defense, so Houston should put plenty of points on the scoreboard.

I also believe the home team will break out of its slump, giving the visitors a run for their money. Memphis has taken good care of the basketball, while Houston hasn't forced many turnovers, so they should have plenty of possessions to put the ball in the hoop. Morant was reportedly angered by the team's decision to suspend him on Sunday, and played like it on Monday. I doubt he'll continue to be a dark cloud over the team, though, and believe he'll energize his squad with a passionate performance tomorrow. The Grizzlies will keep pace on the scoreboard, attacking a Rockets defense ranked 17th in rim defense and 16th in three-point defense. Houston has allowed opponents to take a high volume of three-point attempts, so if that shot is falling, Memphis will keep the score close and push the total over 233 points.
