Kings have been disappointing
Firing Mike Brown and trading De'Aaron Fox last season have not worked out as planned for the Sacramento Kings who enter this matchup trying to get on track after a horrific start.
The Kings have lost eight of their last ten games, and on the season, their opponents are scoring 123.1 points per game against them, which ranks 27th in the NBA.
Offensively, Sacramento isn't much better, averaging 111.6 points per game, ranking 26th in the league, and shooting a modest 35.8% from three. Zach LaVine leads the Kings in scoring at 20.1 points per game, while DeMar DeRozan adds 18.3 points on efficient mid-range shooting. Russell Westbrook has been solid with 14 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.4 assists, but the Kings still go cold for long stretches and haven't been able to get many wins.
Sacramento is happy to have Keegan Murray back who is averaging 18.8 points in four games after missing the first 15 of the season. Unfortunately, although Murray is back, Domantas Sabonis (17.2 ppg, 12.3 rpg) is now going to be out for three to four weeks. Dennis Schroder (12.4 ppg, 6.0 apg), who has played in 18 games this season, starting 12, is listed as questionable.
Big season for Markkanen
Utah has struggled to win games but the offense hasn't been the problem. The Jazz score 118.1 points per game, ranking 14th in the league, and they move the ball extremely well with a conference-leading 29.6 assists per game.
Lauri Markkanen leads the team with 28.5 points per game, shooting nearly 38% from three, and remains their most reliable scoring option. Keyonte George has taken a major leap, averaging 23.4 points and 7.2 assists per game.
The Jazz are one of the best rebounding teams in the league at 46.6 per game (2nd overall), helped by Jusuf Nurkic’s 9.6 rebounds per game. The team did get a boost from Walker Kessler early (14.4 ppg, 10.8 rpg), but he was injured after five games and is now out for the season.
The problem for the Jazz is on the other end of the floor. Utah allows 125.6 points per game, ranking 29th in the league, and opponents shoot 48.7% from the field and 37.3% from three.
Sacramento Kings vs Utah Jazz Predictions
Kings vs Jazz ATS Pick
-
Jazz -1.5 (5 units)
The Jazz have the better offense right now, and they’ve got a big rebounding edge with Sacramento missing Sabonis. Markkanen and George should both give this Kings defense trouble, especially with how poorly they’ve been playing, allowing 123 points per game. Without Sabonis inside, Utah should control the glass and create plenty of second-chance looks. At home, with more dependable scoring options, the Jazz are the side.
Kings vs Jazz Total Pick
-
OVER 242.5 (4 Units)
The over is the best play here. Utah gives up 125.6 points per game and Sacramento allows 123.1, so both defenses get torched on a regular basis. Utah also scores 118 per night, and the Kings have plenty of guys who can heat up even if they run hot and cold. Both teams push the pace (Jazz 5th in pace, Kings 9th), neither protects the rim, and both allow high shooting percentages. With Markkanen, George, LaVine and DeRozan all capable of putting up big scoring nights, this has all the makings of a back-and-forth offensive game. I like the over.
