The Kings are free-falling
The Sacramento Kings (3-13; 5-11 ATS; 8-8 O/U) will try to snap their eight-game skid on Saturday night. They are coming off a back-to-back road set. After a 113-99 defeat at the Oklahoma City Thunder last Wednesday, the Kings suffered an embarrassing 137-96 loss at the Memphis Grizzlies this past Thursday.
Just four Kings scored in double digits against Memphis, and Zach LaVine led the way with 26 points. Sacramento went 11-for-33 from beyond the arc and posted a paltry four offensive rebounds. The Kings committed 17 turnovers while allowing a whopping 30 points off turnovers.
It was another horrendous defensive display from the Kings, who surrender 121.8 points per 100 possessions (27th in the NBA). Sacramento is 29th in the league in opposing 2-point percentage (62.0%) and assists allowed per 100 possessions (29.1).
The Kings score 108.6 points per 100 possessions (tied for 27th). Keegan Murray made his season debut last Thursday after recovering from a wrist injury, but Domantas Sabonis (17.2 PPG, 12.3 RPG) has been diagnosed with a partially torn meniscus and will miss some time.
The Nuggets are playing well
The Denver Nuggets (11-3; 9-5 ATS; 8-6 O/U) put an end to their seven-game winning streak last Monday, suffering a shocking 130-127 home loss against the Chicago Bulls. Two days later, the Nuggets bounced back with a 125-118 road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Denver committed 20 turnovers last Wednesday, but the Nuggets allowed just seven 3-pointers to the lowly Pelicans. Nikola Jokic posted his ninth triple-double of the season with 28 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds, while Peyton Watson scored a career-high 32 points to go with 12 boards and three dimes.
The Nuggets score 124.0 points per 100 possessions (2nd in the NBA) and allow 112.5 points in return (6th). They are a top 10 team in 2-point percentage (59.1%), defensive rebound percentage (75.7%), turnover percentage (12.1%), and free-throw rate (.304).
Denver cannot count on Christian Braun (11.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG). Aaron Gordon (20.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG) missed the Pelicans game with a hamstring injury, but he was probable for Friday’s clash against the Rockets.
Kings vs. Nuggets Pick
Spread Pick for Kings vs. Nuggets
- Denver Nuggets (4 units)
This is a tough spot for the Nuggets. They have to deal with fatigue after a tough road matchup against the Rockets, but there’s no way I’m going to back the slumping Kings anytime soon.
Sacramento just lost by 41 points to Memphis, and the Grizzlies played without Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. Something’s wrong with the Kings, and their head coach, Doug Christie, is on the hot seat.
The Kings have gone 1-7 ATS during their losing streak. Domantas Sabonis’ absence is a huge blow for their frontcourt, and the last time the Kings met the Nuggets, Denver posted 15 offensive rebounds. The Nuggets are 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS in their previous seven dates with the Kings.
Over/Under Pick for Kings vs. Nuggets
- Over (4 units)
The Kings are playing at a fast pace while struggling on both sides of the ball. They record 102.2 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 5th in the NBA). The Nuggets register 99.8 possessions per 48 minutes (20th), but they won’t mind speeding things up, even though they are playing on the second night of a back-to-back.
Denver leads the NBA in opposing 3-point percentage (31.2%), but the Nuggets’ interior defense is not elite. The Kings cannot stop anything, so I’m going with the over on the total. Four of the last six encounters between Denver and Sacramento have gone over.
