The Sacramento Kings (12-34) and the Detroit Pistons (32-11) will tipoff on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference showdown in this Kings vs. Pistons prediction. These teams met back in late December with the Pistons winning a high scoring shootout 136-127 on the road. The Kings are coming off a road loss in Cleveland, where they lost 123-118, but covered as 11.5-point underdogs. The Pistons just dropped a home game 111-104 to the Rockets, losing as a 4-point favorite. Tipoff is set for 3:00 EST. Sacramento Drops Four Straight

The Sacramento Kings have been stuck in the bottom of the Western Conference standings over the past several seasons, and look like they will miss the postseason again this year. The Kings currently have a 12-34 record, and are sitting 14th in the West, already nine games out of the final playoff spot. They have lost their last four games, and come into this road game off a tight loss in Cleveland against the Cavaliers. In that game, the Kings got 24 points and 16 rebounds from Domantas Sabonis in the losing effort.

Sabonis has only played in 15 games this season, and has been coming off the bench in his recent return from injury. The 29-year old center is averaging 16.0 PPG and 11.7 RPG in his appearances this season, and has been averaging a double-double for the Kings since joining the team in 2021. Zach Lavine has been the leading scorer for Sacramento this season, he is getting 19.5 PPG but has not scored over 20 in any of his last five games. DeMar DeRozan is another scorer on the wing, averaging 18.9 PPG.

The Kings are dealing with an injury to Keegan Murray, who is typically their starting power forward, but will miss this game with an ankle injury. Russell Westbrook has found a home in Sacramento, putting up a 15.5 PPG and 6.8 APG stat line. The Kings are ranked 26th in offensive efficiency and 27th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Sacramento plays at an average pace, ranking 16th in the league in possessions per game.

Pistons Snap Four Game Streak

The Detroit Pistons have been one of the most surprising teams in the NBA this season, as they are on top of the Eastern Conference, ad had won their last four games before hosting Houston last time out. The Pistons fell to the Rockets, but still hold a 4.5-game lead over the the Celtics for the top spot in the East. In their loss against the Rockets, the Pistons were led by Jalen Duren with 18 points in the loss.

Duren is a 22-year old center for the Pistons, who is making an interesting case for an All-Star spot as he is getting 17.8 PPG and 10.8 RPG this season. The Pistons lead the East, and teams in that position typically get multiple All-Stars, and Duren seems like he would be the likely choice after Cade Cunningham, who has already been named as a starter. Cunningham is averaging 25.3 PPG and 9.7 APG to lead the Pistons, and has helped turn the franchise around after being the number one overall pick back in 2021. Cunningham is listed as questionable for this game with a wrist injury.

The Pistons have other scoring options on the wing, as Tobias Harris is getting 13.3 PPG and Duncan Robinson is adding another 12.1 PPG. Detroit is ranked 19th in offensive efficiency and 2nd in defensive efficiency. The Pistons play slightly faster than the Kings, ranking 13th in the league in possessions per game.

Kings vs. Pistons Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for Kings vs. Pistons

  • Β Kings +11.5 (5 units)

This is a great spot to take the Kings, especially with all these points as the Pistons are laying more than ten in this non-conference battle. The injuries are trending in opposite directions, as the Kings are getting Domantas Sabonis back, while the Pistons could potentially be without Cade Cunningham. The Kings have scorers on the wing, as LaVine and DeRozan will both be available in this game, causing problems for the Detroit defense. Sabonis is a handful for any big in the league, so Duren will not be able to dominate the paint, and the Kings will cover this large number.

Take the Kings to cover.

Over/Under Pick for Kings vs. Pistons

  • Β Over 227 (4 units)

The Kings have gone over in each of their last three games, and all of those totals have been higher than this 227 number posted here. Sacramento is getting healthy, do not get distracted by their record, as they have had only a small amount of games where Sabonis was available with their high scoring wings. Detroit might be without Cunningham, forcing them to change their strategy, as they will play faster without Cade running high pick and rolls all game. Neither team is on a back-to-back, and this will be a high scoring game on Sunday.

Take the over.
