The 2025-26 NBA season continues Friday, December 19, with the San Antonio Spurs taking on the Atlanta Hawks in the cross-conference showdown at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA, and we’ve got you covered with our Spurs vs. Hawks prediction.
San Antonio and Atlanta close down their two-game regular-season series. Last month, the Spurs beat the Hawks 135-126 as 1.5-point home favorites, and the game went over the 233.5-point line. Now, the Spurs are looking for their fourth straight victory over the Hawks.
Let’s take a closer look at this Spurs vs. Hawks prediction, one of our NBA picks for Friday night. The tip-off at State Farm Arena is set at 7:30 PM ET. Thursday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and both San Antonio and Atlanta took the floor on Thursday night.
The Spurs just lost the NBA Cup Championship Game
The San Antonio Spurs hosted the lowly Washington Wizards on Thursday night, looking to bounce back from a 124-113 defeat against the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup Championship Game. San Antonio blew an 11-point lead last Tuesday, and the Knicks outscored the Spurs 35-19 in the fourth quarter.

The Spurs have won seven of their previous 10 games overall. They beat the red-hot Oklahoma City Thunder 111-109 this past Saturday, and Victor Wembanyama tallied 22 points and nine rebounds in his return from a calf injury. It was Wemby’s first appearance since November 14.
San Antonio ranks seventh in the NBA in adjusted offensive efficiency (118.9 points per 100 possessions) and 14th in adjusted defensive efficiency (114.4). Wembanyama averages 25.8 points and 12.6 rebounds, De’Aaron Fox tallies 23.9 points per game, and Stephon Castle adds 18.4 points and 6.9 assists a night.
The Hawks might get Trae Young back
The Atlanta Hawks visited the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night. The Hawks have won two of their previous three contests, sandwiching a heavy 142-115 defeat at the Detroit Pistons with a couple of wins over the Washington Wizards 131-116 and the Philadelphia 76ers 120-117.
Last Sunday, the Hawks outlasted the 76ers as 4.5-point home favorites. Atlanta went 17-for-33 from beyond the arc and posted 18 offensive rebounds, but the Hawks allowed 21 offensive boards to their rivals. Dyson Daniels double-doubled with 27 points and 10 boards, while Jalen Johnson posted a triple-double of 12 points, 12 assists, and 10 boards.
Johnson is having a breakthrough season, averaging 22.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. Trae Young (17.8 PPG, 7.8 APG) was questionable for Thursday’s clash against Charlotte, and the Hawks’ star point guard hasn’t played since October 29 due to a knee injury. Atlanta scores 115.5 points per 100 possessions (12th) and allows 114.9 points in return (15th).
Spurs vs. Hawks Pick
Spread Pick for Spurs vs. Hawks
- San Antonio Spurs (4 units)
Even if Trae Young suits up for this game, I would take San Antonio. The Spurs are finally healthy, and the Hawks will struggle to deal with San Antonio’s offense. With Wemby back in the lineup, the Spurs have plenty of dangerous weapons.
The Hawks’ defense has slowed down lately. They’ve had a few ugly displays over the last couple of weeks, including that heavy loss against the Pistons. Kristaps Porzingis (illness) is out, so the Hawks will struggle to contain Wembanyama in the paint.
Now, this is the back end of a back-to-back for both teams. Keep tracking the injury report, because someone could pop up on it a few hours before the game.
Over/Under Pick for Spurs vs. Hawks
- Over (4 units)
Neither side plays at a slow pace. The Spurs register 100.3 possessions per 48 minutes (13th in the NBA), while the Hawks record 101.4 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 5th). Both teams are in the middle of the pack in 3-point rate, and when it comes to 3-point percentage, Atlanta is seventh (37.2%), and San Antonio is 11th (36.6%).
Hereof, I will take the over on the total. The Hawks’ interior defense is far from elite level, and the Spurs won’t hesitate to attack the paint in this matchup. The Spurs are arguably a much better rebounding team than the Hawks, so San Antonio will score some second-chance points and get to the free-throw line frequently.
