The 2025 NBA Cup Quarterfinals close down on Wednesday, December 10, with the Western Conference showdown at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA, and we’ve prepared the Spurs vs. Lakers prediction to get you covered.
The Spurs meet the Lakers for the second time this season. The Lakers outlasted the Spurs 118-116 as 1.5-point home underdogs on November 5, and the game went over the 227.5-point line.
Let’s take a closer look at this Spurs vs. Lakers prediction, one of our NBA picks for Wednesday night. The Lakers are 4.5-point home favorites with a total of 235.5 points, and the tip-off is set at 10:00 PM ET.
The Spurs hope to get Wemby back
The San Antonio Spurs (16-7; 12-11 ATS; 13-10 O/U) won the West Group C to qualify for the NBA Cup Quarterfinals. They went 3-1, finishing one game ahead of Denver, Portland, and Houston. In their final showing in the group stage, the Spurs outlasted the Nuggets 139-136 in Denver on November 28.

Since then, the Spurs have gone 3-2 SU and ATS. Last Monday, they beat the New Orleans Pelicans 135-132 as 9-point road favorites. San Antonio went 17-for-36 from beyond the arc, and seven Spurs scored in double figures. Harrison Barnes led the way with 24 points.
Stephon Castle (17.4 PPG, 7.4 APG) returned from a nine-game absence last Monday and posted a line of 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Victor Wembanyama (26.2 PPG, 12.9 RPG) hasn’t played since November 14 due to a calf injury, and he’s doubtful for Wednesday’s clash against the Lakers.
According to the Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson, Wembanyama will travel with the team, but he isn’t guaranteed to suit up. Without Wemby, the Spurs have done a great job, going 8-3 SU and 7-4 ATS.
San Antonio scores 119.0 points per 100 possessions (tied for 7th in the NBA) and allows 114.7 points in return (16th). The Spurs boast the second-best defensive rebound percentage in the league (76.7%) and rank 13th in 3-point percentage (36.6%).
The Lakers continue to lean on Luka Doncic
The Los Angeles Lakers (17-6; 15-8 ATS; 16-7 O/U) won the West Group B to make it to the NBA Cup knockout stage. The Lakers went 4-0, finishing one game ahead of Memphis. Purple-and-Gold clinched the top spot with a 129-119 victory to the Mavericks on November 28.
Since the NBA Cup group stage ended, the Lakers have gone 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS. They are coming off Sunday’s 112-108 win at the Philadelphia 76ers. Luka Doncic returned from a two-game absence and posted a triple-double of 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Doncic has been unstoppable this season, averaging 35.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.1 assists. Austin Reaves tallies 28.4 points and 6.7 assists per game, while Deandre Ayton posts 15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds a night.
LeBron James has appeared in seven games this season, averaging 16.1 points, 7.6 assists, and 4.7 boards. He had 29 points, seven boards, and six dimes against Philadelphia. Marcus Smart (9.3 PPG) missed six straight games due to a back injury and is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.
The Lakers score 119.4 points per 100 possessions (6th in the NBA) and surrender 117.2 points in return (20th). They are eighth in the league in defensive rebound percentage (74.7%) and 17th in 3-point percentage (35.8%). The Lakers lead the NBA in 2-point percentage (60.8%).
Spurs vs. Lakers Pick
Spread Pick for Spurs vs. Lakers
- Los Angeles Lakers -4.5 (5 units)
The Lakers outlasted the Spurs in November despite missing both LeBron James and Austin Reaves. Luka Doncic tortured San Antonio for 35 points and 13 assists, while Deandre Ayton battled bravely against Victor Wembanyama, finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. The Spurs missed De’Aaron Fox (24.3 PPG, 6.5 APG), who’ll lead the way this time around.
I expect another tight battle between these two teams. Even if Wembanyama remains on the shelf, the Spurs have enough weapons to hurt the Lakers’ shaky defense. But in crunch time, the Lakers will find a way to get things done. They are a more experienced team than San Antonio, and I don’t want to bet against Doncic and LeBron in a game like this one.
Over/Under Pick for Spurs vs. Lakers
- Over 235.5 (5 units)
The Lakers heavily lean on their offense. They love to attack the paint and get to the free-throw line as much as possible. As I noted, the Lakers lead the NBA in 2-point percentage. They lead the league in free-throw rate, too.
The Spurs are ninth in the league in free-throw rate. They look like a better defensive team than Los Angeles, but I wouldn’t trust the Spurs’ defense in this matchup. San Antonio is 26th in opposing 3-point percentage (38.0%).
The Lakers don’t lean on 3-pointers, but they will find open shots against the Spurs. Both teams play at a steady pace, so give me the over. Five of San Antonio’s last six games overall and six of Los Angeles’ previous seven have gone over the total.
