Timberwolves vs. Nets Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Timberwolves vs. Nets
- Minnesota -9 (5 Units)
The T-Wolves picked up their first spread win of the season on Saturday, beating the Hornets by 17 as 4.5-point favorites. I anticipate a similar result on Monday in Brooklyn against a Nets team playing a back-to-back. Brooklyn has lost by double digits in three of its last four games and was not competitive on Sunday. Thomas is too inefficient a shooter to be a leading scorer of an NBA team, and there isn't enough depth behind him. The Timberwolves will make the Nets' defense pay from beyond the arc, as their opponents have been red-hot from long range. Defensively, Minnesota will challenge Brooklyn at the rim, where they rank 5th in opponent shooting percentage.
Minnesota has covered the spread in four of its previous five games against the Nets. Bet on that outcome on Monday night!
Over/Under Pick for Timberwolves vs. Nets
- Under 229 (4 Units)
This matchup pits two of the slowest-tempo NBA teams, as Minnesota averages 99.8 possessions per 48 minutes (22nd) and Brooklyn averages 99.5 (23rd). The Nets have only five players averaging double-digit points, as they appear headed for another lottery pick in next year's NBA Draft. They rank 20th in free-throw rate and are a bottom-ten three-point shooting team, as well. Minnesota won't play with its food on Monday, but I don't expect the visitors to score 130-plus points, either. They're playing without their star, Edwards, and have no motivation to push it to the limit if they get out to a comfortable lead. The Timberwolves are a veteran-led squad focused on the big picture, which certainly doesn't factor in early November games against a winless Nets team.
