Willl Timberwolves seek revenge on Wednesday?

Minnesota (10-7 SU, 6-11 ATS, and 8-9 O/U) lost 117-112 in overtime to Sacramento on Monday. The T-Wolves split their previous four games and are 6-4 (4-6 ATS) in their last ten. In their latest game, they shot just 41 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep. They also committed 17 turnovers, helping the Kings erase a 14-point deficit. Minnesota is third in the NBA Cup's West Group A standings with a 2-1 record and a +53 point differential.

Anthony Edwards leads the Timberwolves in scoring, averaging 26.5 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting. He also averages 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. A few other Minnesota players to watch on Wednesday against the Thunder are F Julius Randle (24.7 PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 5.8 APG), F Jaden McDaniels (17.2 PPG and 4.6 RPG), G Donte DiVincenzo (13.6 PPG and 3.6 APG), and C Rudy Gobert (10.7 PPG and 10.1 RPG).

The Timberwolves score 119.7 points per game (9th) on 48.6 percent shooting (9th), including 37.4 percent from three-point range (10th). The Minnesota defense surrenders 114.3 points per game (9th) on 45.4 percent shooting (7th), including 36.2 percent from beyond the arc (16th). They are 14th in NET rating, including 14th in offensive rating and 10th in defensive rating, per Dunks and Threes.

Minnesota Timberwolves Basketball Injury Report:

  • No injuries to report for Wednesday's NBA Cup game against the Thunder.

OKC leads NBA Cup Group A

Oklahoma City (17-1 SU, 10-8 ATS, and 9-9 O/U) beat Portland 122-95 on Sunday. The Blazers are the only team that has beaten them this season. OKC is led by G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who averages 32.2 points per game. The Thunder score 122.6 points per game (3rd) on 48.8 percent shooting (8th), including 36.1 percent from three-point range (16th). Their opponents score 105.7 points per game (1st) on 42.3 percent shooting (1st), including 36.4 percent from beyond the arc (18th). Oklahoma City is first in the NBA Cup's West Group A standings with a 2-0 record and a +63 point differential.

OKC won its first NBA championship in 2024-25 after finishing first in the Western Conference with a 68-14 regular-season record. Gilgeous-Alexander was awarded MVP honors for his dominant play (32.7 PPG, 6.4 APG, and 5.0 RPG), but it was a true team effort, as the Thunder set NBA records for the highest-ever point differential and most double-digit wins. With 95 percent of the minutes from last season's squad returning, Oklahoma City is expected to contend for the league's first back-to-back championship since 2017-18 (Golden State).

The Thunder were the youngest team in the NBA last season, and management has committed to the future, inking Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Holmgren to long-term extensions. For a franchise that once let Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook get away, that was a welcome sight for fans. As long as the team's stars can stay healthy, there's no reason to believe OKC won't be a title contender this season and in the years to come.

Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball Injury Report:

  • G Aaron Wiggins (thigh) has missed nine straight games and is considered day-to-day.

Timberwolves vs. Thunder Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Timberwolves vs. Thunder

  • Minnesota +10.5 (5 Units)

The Thunder punked the T-Wolves in the playoffs, sending them packing in just five games. That had to leave a sour taste in their mouths, and I believe they'll be eager to compete on Wednesday in their first opportunity to get revenge, especially in an NBA Cup game. With ten points separating these teams in point differential, it's important that the T-Wolves at least keep the score close, too. There's no denying that the Thunder are the class of the league, but Minnesota has plenty of star power of its own. Edwards is coming off consecutive 40-point performances; he'll be ready for tomorrow's game after coming up just a point short in Friday's NBA Cup loss to Phoenix.

Over/Under Pick for Timberwolves vs. Thunder

  • Under 228.5 (5 Units)

The Thunder are one of the slowest-tempo NBA teams, ranking 25th in pace. They'll be comfortable slowing down the game to their liking at home, riding their stout defense (1st in defensive rating, 1st in opponent eFG%, and 1st in opponent rim%) to the victory. I also feel confident that Minnesota will bring its A-game, especially on defense. The Timberwolves rank 10th in defensive rating, holding opponents to the third-lowest rim shooting percentage in the league and seventh-lowest effective field goal percentage.

The under is 7-3 in Minnesota's last ten games and 6-4 in OKC's last ten. That's how I recommend wagering on Wednesday's NBA Cup matchup between these Western Conference contenders.
