Raptors are reeling
Toronto has just one win in December (Portland) and that was their first game of a five-game homestand. Unfortunately for Toronto, they lost their next four games to the Lakers, Charlotte, Boston and the Knicks on Dec. 9. Injuries have been part of the problem as RJ Barrett (knee) has missed nine straight games and Immanuel Quickley (illness) has been sidelined. Quickley is expected to return on Monday, but Barrett (19.4ppg) is still out.
Brandon Ingram leads the Raptors with 21.5 points on 47.2% shooting, while Scottie Barnes adds 19.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists. According to DunksandThrees.com, Toronto is ranked 16th in Adjusted Net Rating, 19th in Adjusted Offense and 14th in Adjusted Defense. Toronto's best intangible is their defense as they rank fourth in the NBA in three-point defense (33.7%).
Heat going through some struggles
Miami has four straight games, including a 117-108 defeat at Orlando in the NBA Cup last Tuesday. Norman Powell led the Heat with 21 points and Tyler Herro added 20. Miami struggled from long range, shooting just 8 of 33 (24%), and were outrebounded by eight and couldn't slow down Desmond Bane (37 points).

The good news for Miami is that Tyler Herro, who has played in just six games this season, is averaging 23.2 points and 5.0 rebounds on 50.5% shooting after returning from offseason ankle surgery. Norman Powell leads the way with 24.6 points and 3.8 rebounds, while shooting 43.6% from three-point range. Miami is ranked 12th in Adjusted Net Rating on DunksandThrees.com, 15th in Adjusted Offense and 5th in Adjusted Defense.
Picks and Prediction for Raptors vs. Heat
Raptors vs. Heat Spread Pick
- Toronto +6 (4 units)
That's a high spread, and I know that Barrett is out, but Quickley will return for this one. Miami is strong at home, but Toronto is 7-5 on the road. Neither team is a cover machine as of late, but I think the long rest will help Toronto even more due to their injuries and poor recent performances at home. They actually need to go on the road, while Miami has lost to Orlando twice in their four-game losing streak. Toronto will close out defensively on their shooters with their length.
Over/Under Pick on Raptors vs. Heat
- Under 235.5 (5 units)
Miami is pushing the ball a lot more than in the past, though Toronto is just 23rd in pace. Toronto's three-point defense is top five and when they go on the road, they are number one, allowing 32.2% from beyond the arc. Miami has gone under in four straight games
