Toronto Snaps Four-Game Skid

The Toronto Raptors were at the top of the Eastern Conference standings in the early part of the season, but have since fallen back, and their recent string of losses did not help. Toronto has lost four of their last five games, and to make matters worse, all of their losses have come on their home floor. The Raptors still have plenty of talent and are sitting in the 3rd spot in the conference standings. In their last game, Brandon Ingram led the way with 28 points in the win over the Heat.

Ingram has battled injuries throughout his career, which has spanned multiple teams, including the Lakers and the Pelicans. He has been able to stay on the floor this season, as he has played in all 27 games, and leads the team with 21.8 PPG while adding 5.8 RPG. Ingram has scored 28 or more in each of his last three games. Scottie Barnes is their other star forward; he is averaging 19.6 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 5.3 APG while filling up the box scores. RJ Barrett is their third scorer, but the 25-year-old guard will miss this game as he continues to battle a knee injury.

Immanuel Quickley (16.5 PPG) and Jakob Poeltl (10.1 PPG) have been solid role players for the Raptors this season. Toronto is ranked 22nd in offensive efficiency and 8th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Raptors play relatively slowly, ranking 21st in the league in possessions per game.

Bucks Battle Trade Rumors

The Milwaukee Bucks are only 11-16 on the season, while having one of the best players on the planet on their roster. This has led to speculation that Giannis Antetokounmpo will ask for a trade, to hopefully be moved to a team that can compete for titles. Giannis did grab one championship in Milwaukee, but continued success has been difficult to find for the franchise. Giannis did not play in their last game, which is part of the reason why the Nets were able to dominate the game at home.

Giannis is leading the team in points, rebounds and assists, but will miss this game again as he continues to battle a calf injury. Going by averages, Kevin Porter Jr. becomes their next leading scorer as he is averaging 19.3 PPG, though it should be noted that he has only played in eight games this season. Ryan Rollins is their 23-year-old point guard who has been working hard to prove that he is a starting-caliber point guard in this league, he is getting 17.0 PPG and 6.0 APG in the starting lineup. Kyle Kuzma was coming off the bench to start the season, but has been moved to the starting lineup and is averaging 13.5 PPG on the year.

Kuzma is listed as a game-time decision due to an illness, but both Myles Turner (12.2 PPG) and Bobby Portis (11.9 PPG) will be available in the frontcourt. The Bucks rank 27th in offensive efficiency and 22nd in defensive efficiency. They play at a similar pace as the Raptors, ranking 23rd in the league in possessions per game.

Raptors vs. Bucks Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for Raptors vs. Bucks

  • Bucks +5.5 (5 units)

Everyone is expecting the walls to fall down in Milwaukee, especially with Giannis out of the lineup with a calf injury, but that has not been the case as of late. They were recently getting 9.5 points against the Celtics, and 4.5-points against the Pistons, and won both games outright as the underdog. Meanwhile, Toronto has not looked like the third-best team in the East, as they have lost four of their last five, and their results against the spread are even worse. The Raptors have only covered in one of their last nine games, and the RJ Barrett injury has created a bigger issue than expected. Poeltl might miss this game for Toronto, and the Bucks are still strong on the inside as Turner and Portis are experienced vets who can score. Milwaukee keeps this closer than expected.

Take the Bucks plus the points.

Over/Under Pick for Raptors vs. Bucks

  • Β Under 234.5(4 units)

Two slow-paced teams meet each other with several high-scoring players on the sideline; this will be an under. The most notable absence will be Giannis, as the perennial All-Star is still out with his calf injury. That changes the entire dynamic for Milwaukee offensively, as he is no longer on the floor to generate points on the one-man fast break. Milwaukee will slow it down, as they now need to share the ball to put up a quality number in scoring. Toronto has been struggling as of late and may be regressing to the mean after their hot start. The Raptors have gone under in three of their last four, and will go under again here.

Take the under.
