Jazz Looking to Build Off Impressive Opener

Utah, for one night at least, put on a show for the fans as they put the boots to the Clippers from the opening tip en route to the most points in a season opener in franchise history. The Jazz look to carry that momentum with them on the road for this contest. Against the Clippers, Utah bolted to a 19-9 lead just over five minutes into the game and was off and running at that point. The Jazz were up 43-19 after the opening quarter and 78-47 at the half as they led wire-to-wire in the victory. Utah led by as many as 37 and torched the Clippers repeatedly in the first half for easy buckets.

For the game, Utah shot a blistering 55.2% from the field, including 17 of their 44 three-point attempts, and recorded 38 assists on 48 field goals. The Jazz connected on 16 of 20 free throw attempts, controlled the boards by a 46-38 margin and won points in the paint by a 58-46 margin. Walker Kessler led six Utah players in double figures with 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and four blocks. Brice Sensabaugh and Lauri Markkanen each finished with 20 points, Keyonte George added 16 points plus nine assists, Taylor Hendricks chipped in 13 off the bench and Walter Clayton Jr. added 10 in his NBA debut. The Jazz got 53 points from their reserves in the win.

Georges Niang (foot) is out until at least late October, while Isaiah Collier (foot) is out here as well.

Sacramento Shooting to Earn Home Win

Sacramento battled against Phoenix but ultimately couldnโ€™t make the clutch plays in crunch time to wind up on the short end of the stick on Wednesday night on the road. The Kings hope to bounce back on their home floor in this contest. Against Phoenix, Sacramento was rolling in the first half, leading by 10 after the opening quarter, by as many as 20 with 2:25 to play in the first half and by 17 at intermission before the wheels fell off. The Kings saw the lead sliced to two after three quarters and gave up an 11-2 run to start the fourth quarter to trail 101-94 with 8:28 to play. Sacramento managed to tie the game at 110 with 1:17 remaining but never got even after the Suns took the lead on three Dillon Brooks free throws with 1:03 to go.

In the contest, Sacramento shot an even 50% from the floor, including a nine of 24 performance from three-point range, but clanked 10 of their 23 attempts at the free throw line in the contest. The Kings were outrebounded 51-37 and turned the ball over 13 times in the game. Zach LaVine led Sacramento with 30 points in the loss. DeMar DeRozan contributed 29 points, six rebounds plus nine assists, Malik Monk chipped in 19 off the bench and Dennis Schroder added 14 points plus seven assists in the game. The Kings were missing a couple of key contributors that may have impacted their chances.

Keegan Murray (thumb) is out until mid to late November. Rookie Nique Clifford (hamstring) was injured in the opener and will miss at least a week, so heโ€™s out here. Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) was injured in the preseason and missed the opener. He is questionable for this contest.

Jazz vs. Kings Pick

Jazz vs. Kings Spread Pick

  • Kings -6 (4 units)

Utah may have looked dominant in their win over the Clippers on opening night but letโ€™s temper expectations a bit. The Jazz went just 17-65 last season to finish with the leagueโ€™s worst mark, including a 7-34 showing on the road. Sacramento started strong against Phoenix before fading in the second half of the contest. The Kings will miss Murray, who they signed to a five-year, $140 million rookie extension earlier this month. On the plus side, Sabonis is trending in the right direction and could see the floor here. That would be a big boost for the DeRozan/LaVine combo as it would give them a competent big man to balance things out. Sacramento should bounce back at home here as they come up with the victory, as you have to fade the young Jazz on the road.

Jazz vs. Kings Over/Under Pick

  • Over 231.5 (-110)

Utah finished last season with the fifth-highest over percentage in the league last season, posting a 47-34-1 mark to the over in 2024-25. The Jazz were just 24th in offensive efficiency, dead last in defensive efficiency and fifth in tempo with 100 possessions per game. They went over the number in their season opener. Sacramento had the over record a 43-38-2 mark last season. The Kings finished seventh in offensive efficiency, 23rd in defensive efficiency and 19th in tempo with 98.2 possessions a night. Sacramento also went over the mark in their season-opening contest. With a pair of teams with defensive issues, look for this game to wind up a higher-scoring affair that ends up over the number.
