Wizards keep finding ways to lose
Washington was a 17-point underdog on Sunday and was leading Cleveland by 15 points in the fourth quarter before Donovan Mitchell (48pts) took over and the Wiz squandered the big lead. Washington also turned the ball over 16 times, which didn't help matters. They wasted a strong effort from second-year guard Bub Carrington, who had 27 points and eight assists, while veteran guard C.J. McCollum added 27 points and six assists. The Wizards shot 49% from the field and took 44 three-pointers (made 16).
The Wizards are in rebuilding mode but injuries to leading scorer Alex Sarr (thigh), wings Bilal Coulibaly (oblique) and Corey Kispert (thumb) haven't helped matters. Coulibaly and Kispert will be out at least another week, while Saar is considered questionable. Saar (19.1ppg, 8.6rpg) hasn't played since Nov. 28, which happened to be in that loss to the Pacers, where he scored 24 points and grabbed nine boards. If Saar doesn't play, McCollum is the top scorer with 19.0 points per game, while shooting 39.9% from the field.
According to DunksandThrees.com, Washington is well....bad. They are last in every conceivable category: Net Rating, Offense and Defense.

Key injury report for Wizards:
- C Alex Sarr (thigh) is questionable.
- F Khris Middleton (knee) is questionable.
- G Bilal Coulibaly (oblique) is out.
- F Corey Kispert (thumb) is out.
Pacers need a jolt
Maybe it's Aaron Nesmith (knee) back in the lineup, but Indiana needs something different. Nesmith is not ready to return, so they'll have to rely on Pascal Siakam and Benedict Mathurini. That difference would be G Tyrese Haliburton and C Myles Turner, but one is out for the year with an Achilles injury and the other is playing on the Bucks. The Pacers seemed to be on the right track after beating the Bulls and Kings in back-to-back games, but reality struck against the Sixers.
Mathurin was held to seven points on 2-for-8 shooting and Siakam led the way with 20 points. But they couldn't beat a Philly team without their best player (Tyrese Maxey). They were also pounded on the boards by 13 and that's another issue for Indiana. Jay Huff (13pts, 4 rebs) is a nice story, but he's not Turner.
Siakam (6-8, 245) and is the Pacers' best player with 24.3 points, 7 rebounds and 4.0 assists, while shooting 48% from the field and 36.5% from three-point range. Mathurin, who has missed 11 games, adds 20.4 points and 5.6 rebounds, while shooting 42.2% from three-point range.
On DunksandThrees.com, the Pacers are rated 24th overall, 27th in Adjusted Offense and 20th in Adjusted Defense.
Key injury report for Pacers:
- G Ben Sheppard (calf) is out another 1-2 weeks.
- G Aaron Nesmith (knee) is out.
Spread Pick for Wizards vs. Pacers
Wizards vs. Pacers Prediction and Pick
- Indiana -9 (5 units)
Washington covered on Friday, but the Cavs haven't been playing well. Indiana has covered eight of their last 11 games. Mathurin and Nembhard certainly help the cause now that they are back in the lineup. Even if Saar plays, it's not like he's a huge difference-maker in their 3-20 record. The Pacers are also 5-8 at home and 1-11 on the road. To make matters worse, Washington is last in rebound rate and can't take advantage of Jay Huff and the Pacers' undersized big men. If Sarr doesn't play, the Wizards have Marvin Bagley Jr. and Tristan Vucevic at center. Not exactly All-Star caliber bigs.
Over/Under Wizards vs. Pacers
- Under 234.5 (4 units)
Their last meeting went well under because Washington scored just 86 points. They do want to push the ball, but it's tough when you can't rebound. Indiana has gone under in three straight and six of their last eight games. They've also gone under in five of their last seven meetings against the Wizards.
