Wizards End Extended Losing Streak
The Washington Wizards are targeting just their third win of the season. It’s been a disastrous season for a team that was among the worst in the NBA last season. They stand at the very bottom of the NBA standings this season. Washington has not been competitive in many of the defeats. The Wizards lost by 30 points against the Raptors last week. They were hit with a 123-101 road loss by the Bulls on Saturday and answered with a 132-113 home win against the Hawks on Tuesday. They shot 57% and held the Hawks to a 45% mark. The Wizards were 11-point dogs in that one. The Wizards have covered the spread in one of their past five games.
Alex Sarr has been one of the few positives this season. The 20-year-old has reached 19 points in five games this month. Sarr has netted an average of 18.7 PPG on 52% shooting. He averaged 17 points against the Pacers last season. Kyshawn George did not play in the game on Tuesday due to sickness and could be ready. The 21-year-old is in his second season. George is averaging 16.5 PPG and 5.9 RPG
CJ McCollum is the veteran of this group. The point guard has been inconsistent. He has reached 20 points in only five games this month after scoring 46 points on Tuesday. McCollum has netted an average of 18.2 PPG on 43% shooting. Tre Johnson has a hip injury and is not going to suit up in this one. The 19-year-old rookie was the #6 in the past draft. He has contributed with 11.5 PPG. Bilal Coulibaly has scored double digits in one of his past five games. The 21-year-old is averaging 9.6 PPG and 3.3 APG.
The Wizards are 0-5 in their past five road games, including an OT defeat against the Pistons, covering in three games in that span. They have just one road win on the season. Washington is averaging 114.1 points on the year, marking them 23rd. The Wizards are conceding an average of 128.2 points, placing them 30th.
Key Injury Report for Wizards:
- G Corey Kispert (finger) is out 3-4 weeks.
- F Kyshawn George (illness) is questionable.
- G Tre Johnson (hip) is out indefinitely
Pacers Seek Third Win of Season
The Indiana Pacers are eying win number three. Similar to Washington, it’s been a tough go for this team. They had lost nine straight games before a win against the Hornets last week. They were dealt a 122-117 home loss by the Pistons on Monday and were competitive in a narrow 97-95 road defeat by a hot Raptors squad on Wednesday. Indiana shot 45% and kept the Raptors to a 39% efficiency. The Pacers were marked 10.5-point dogs in that one. The Pacers have covered the spread in two of their past five games.
Pascal Siakam has not been the issue this season. The 31-year-old star forward has sunk 22 or more points in five of his past six games. Siakam dropped just 11 points on Wednesday and is sporting an average of 25 PPG. Bennedict Mathurin is back in action after missing the first three weeks of this month. The 23-year-old has been a huge threat, sinking 21 or more points in three of his past five games. Mathurin has recorded an average of 23 PPG.
Andrew Nembhard was injured for most of October. The 25-year-old guard scored 32 points in the defeat against the Cavaliers last week and is averaging 17.5 PPG and leads the squad with 6.2 APG. He averaged 6.7 PPG against the Wizards last season. Aaron Nesmith is out with an injury, while Obi Toppin is also out of action. Jarace Walker has shot 50% or above in three of his past five games. The 22-year-old forward has reported an average of 10.5 PPG accompanied by 5.1 RPG. Quenton Jackson has a hamstring injury and has played in just two games this month. He is averaging 11.8 PPG.
The Pacers stand at 1-4 in their past five home games, including a defeat against the Raptors and a win vs. the Hornets. They covered in three games in that span. Washington is scoring an average of 109.6 points on the season, rating them 28th. The Pacers are conceding an average of 121.4 points, pegging them 25th in the entire NBA.
Key Injury Report for Pacers:
- G Andrew Nembhard (quad) is questionable.
- G Aaron Nesmith (hamstring) is out.
Wizards vs. Pacers Pick
Spread Pick for Wizards vs. Pacers
- Indiana Pacers -6 (5 units)
The Washington Wizards have only managed one win since the second game of the season back in October. This is a team that has only covered the spread five times the entire season. The Indiana Pacers are better on paper and have proven scorers in Siakam and Mathiurin, who is back after missing most of this month. The Pacers have played the Pistons and Raptors in their past two games and covered in each game.
Furthermore, Washington is taking a ton of threes. They have attempted 36 and 39 threes in their past two games. This is key against a Pacers defense that is stingy guarding threes. The Pacers are keeping opponents to a 32.1% mark from three-point range, marking them fifth in the NBA. Also, the Wizards have not been competitive in these losses. They have lost by double digits in five of their past six games. All but two of the Wizards' road defeats have been by 10 or more points.
Over/Under Pick for Wizards vs. Pacers
- Over 240 (5 units)
I expect a shootout in this one. Washington is a disaster in the defensive end and has squandered 129 or more points in four of its last five games. It’s been especially ugly when on the road, conceding an average of 130 points in their past five road clashes.
In addition, the Pacers' defense is also a huge weakness. They have surrendered at least 120 points in five of their past seven games. These squads play at a quick pace. The Wizards are fifth in pace, while the Pacers are seventh in the NBA in pace. The over is 5-2 in the Wizards' previous five games.
