The Wizards have improved lately
The Washington Wizards (7-24; 12-19 ATS; 17-14 O/U) have won four of their previous eight games overall, which is an impressive feat for Brian Keefe’s boys. They just finished a three-game homestand with a 2-1 SU and ATS record. After consecutive wins over the Toronto Raptors 138-117 and the Memphis Grizzlies 116-112, the Wizards lost to the Phoenix Suns 115-101 this past Monday.

Against Toronto, the Wizards shot 59.3% from the field (15-for-33 from deep). Versus the Grizzlies, Washington made just 42.4% of its field goals (8-for-33 from deep), but the Wizards put on a solid defensive performance while going 24-for-25 from the foul line.
Last Monday, the Wizards shot 46.1% from the field (13-for-32 from deep). They committed six more turnovers than Phoenix while allowing a whopping 20 offensive rebounds. Tre Johnson led the way for Washington with 24 points, and CJ McCollum had 17 points and four assists.
McCollum is the team’s leading scorer with 18.6 points per game, while Alex Sarr averages 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds. The Wizards score 111.3 points per 100 possessions (27th in the NBA) and surrender 122.9 points in return (30th).
The Bucks eye their third straight W
The Milwaukee Bucks (14-19; 16-17 ATS; 14-19 O/U) have won three of their previous four games. They just finished a five-game road trip with a 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS record. Now, the Bucks are looking for their third straight victory after beating the Chicago Bulls 112-103 and the Charlotte Hornets 123-113.
Last Saturday, the Bucks held the Bulls to 41.9% shooting from the field. Milwaukee went 13-for-36 from downtown and committed just 12 turnovers. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way with 29 points and eight rebounds, while Ryan Rollins notched 20 points, seven boards, and five assists.
Two days later, the Bucks held the Hornets to 43.0% shooting from the field. Milwaukee made 52.4% of its field goals (16-for-34 from deep) while posting a 29/9 assist-to-turnover ratio. Bobby Portis led the charge with 25 points off the bench, and Antetokounmpo posted 24 points and seven assists.
Antetokounmpo tallies 28.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, while Kevin Porter Jr. adds 18.8 points, 7.6 assists, and 5.2 boards a night. The Bucks score 113.7 points per 100 possessions (24th in the NBA) and allow 116.6 points in return (17th).
Wizards vs. Bucks Pick
Spread Pick for Wizards vs. Bucks
- Milwaukee Bucks (4 units)
The Wizards have injury worries ahead of New Year’s Eve. Cam Whitmore (9.2 PPG) is out, while Kyshawn George (15.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 5.1 APG), Khris Middleton (10.3 PPG, 4.1 RPG), and Corey Kispert (8.9 PPG) are all questionable. George has been a vital part of the Wizards’ starting lineup this season, but he’s in danger of missing his third straight game.
On the other side, the Bucks are pretty much healthy. They’ve taken great care of the ball over the last two games, and I expect more of the same when the Wizards come to town. Washington is dead last in the league in defensive turnover percentage (10.3%) and defensive rebound percentage (69.9%), so I’m going with the Bucks.
Over/Under Pick for Wizards vs. Bucks
- Over (4 units)
The Wizards are one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA. They play fast, tallying 101.0 possessions per 48 minutes (9th in the league), and the Bucks won’t mind joining the party. Milwaukee registers 98.8 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 23rd), but the Bucks will push the ball in transition whenever they can in this matchup, looking to take full advantage of Washington’s lousy defense.
The Bucks lean on 3-pointers, which is another reason to take the over. Milwaukee is seventh in the league in 3-point rate (.437) and third in 3-point percentage (39.7%). Washington makes 35.8% of its shots from deep (tied for 15th) and ranks 21st in 3-point rate (.400).
