Washington Wizards Looking for a Response
The Wizards had a chance to make it three wins in a row Wednesday. Atlanta spoiled that, beating Washington 120-105 on its home floor. Washington has now lost three of five and sits at 4-4, with a defense giving up 109.0 points per game. The offense isn't holding its own at 108.9. Washington hits 47.6% of its shots, but the rebounding numbers aren't encouraging, at just 41.0 boards a night.
Anthony Davis has been Washington's main threat inside, scoring 23.4 points and grabbing 9.3 rebounds. Trae Young runs the offense with 19.6 points and 9.5 assists. Kyshawn George adds 17.3 points and 4.8 assists, while AJ Dybantsa scores 16.5. Alex Sarr collects 6.0 rebounds. Bilal Coulibaly chips in with 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks. The Wizards average 24.8 assists against 13.5 turnovers, but their outside shooting needs work, as they hit just 8.8 threes per game at 29.4%.
Injuries: Reece Beekman, Tristan Vukcevic, Justin Champagnie and Jamir Watkins are out.

Oklahoma City Thunder Protecting Home Court
Cleveland came to Oklahoma City Wednesday looking for revenge. Instead, the Thunder handed the Cavaliers another defeat, 124-116. Two straight victories have erased some of the frustration from consecutive losses, giving OKC three wins in five games. Paycom Center has been particularly kind to the Thunder, who haven't lost there in four appearances. Oklahoma City scores 110.0 points and allows 108.8 per game. The shooting numbers are not the best at: 44.0% overall and 33.3% from deep.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has averages of 30.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per night. Ajay Mitchell has taken up some of the slack due to injuries, averaging 17.8 points, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals each time out. Jared McCain adds 10.1 points. With Chet Holmgren sidelined by a knee injury, Isaiah Hartenstein's 10.1 rebounds and Aday Mara's 1.9 blocks are more important each night. The Thunder average 46.6 rebounds, 21.6 assists, 7.8 steals and 5.8 blocks. They also protect the ball well, turning it over only 12.3 times per contest.
Injuries: Jaylin Williams, Nikola Topic, Thomas Sorber, Cason Wallace and Chet Holmgren are out.
Key To The Game
Washington shoots better overall, 47.6% to 44.0%, but Oklahoma City wins more off the boards and protects the ball better. The Thunder average 46.6 rebounds against the Wizards' 41.0 and commit 12.3 turnovers to Washington's 13.5. Davis must keep Hartenstein from controlling the glass. Young needs to create easy looks, because Washington's 29.4% three-point shooting is a concern.
Washington Wizards vs Oklahoma City Thunder Game Pick
- Oklahoma City Thunder
The Wizards have Davis and Young, a combination capable of causing problems for anybody. Davis averages 23.4 points and 9.3 rebounds; Young dishes out 9.5 assists. But Oklahoma City is 4-0 at home, and Gilgeous-Alexander's 30.1 points give the Thunder the most productive scorer on either side. Hartenstein also owns a 10.1-rebound average, helping OKC control Washington on the glass. Neither team shoots especially well from three. The Thunder's extra possessions through rebounding and steals, and stronger home results, will make the difference. Oklahoma City is my pick.
Washington Wizards vs Oklahoma City Thunder Over/Under Pick
- Under
Washingtonβs average is 108.9 points scored per game, and Oklahoma Cityβs is 110.0. Neither offense has overwhelmed opponents to start the season. The Wizards shoot 29.4% from three, making just 8.8 a game; the Thunder are at 33.3% from outside and 44.0% overall. Gilgeous-Alexander can get his points, while Young and Davis give Washington two strong offensive options. Still, both defenses allow about 109 points per contest, and OKC can limit second shots with 46.6 rebounds a night. I'm taking the under.
