Ravens Hoping to Turn Season Around

Baltimore snapped a four-game slide as they took down the Bears at home Sunday, picking up a much-needed victory. The Ravens improved to 2-5 on the season and stand third in the AFC North, two games behind the Steelers for the top spot. Against Chicago, Baltimore trailed 6-0 after the opening quarter before reeling off 16 unanswered points to lead 16-6 after three quarters. The Ravens didn’t let the Bears closer than three the rest of the way en route to the win. Baltimore was outgained 372-355 in total offense despite holding a 24-19 margin in first downs and a 30:30 to 29:30 edge in time of possession in the contest. The Ravens also forced the lone turnover in the contest. Lamar Jackson missed his third straight game, but the Ravens received strong play out of backup Tyler Huntley.

This season, Baltimore is 28th in the league in passing offense with an average of 182.3 yards per game, while they are eighth in the league in rushing offense by picking up 133.4 yards per contest. The Ravens are 13th in the league in scoring offense by putting up 24.9 points per contest, while the team is 30th in the league in scoring defense by allowing 30 points per game. Lamar Jackson has completed 68 of 95 passes for 869 yards with 10 touchdowns against one interception. He is second on the team in rushing with 21 carries for 166 yards and a score as well. Cooper Rush (34 of 52, 303 yards, four INT) and Tyler Huntley (27 of 37, 254 yards, TD, 92 rush yards) have seen action as well. Derrick Henry (109 carries, 510 yards, six TD) is the lead back in the ground game. Justice Hill (16 carries, 90 yards, TD) and Keaton Mitchell (seven carries, 51 yards) are other backs in the system. In the passing game, the Ravens are led by Zay Flowers, who has 41 receptions for 486 yards and one touchdown this season. Tight end Mark Andrews (24 catches, 208 yards, two TD), DeAndre Hopkins (10 receptions, 192 yards, two TD), Rashod Bateman (13 catches, 171 yards, TD) and Hill (18 catches, 144 yards, TD) are other solid options. Tyler Loophas hit 18 of 19 extra point attempts and drilled 12 of 13 field goal attempts with a long of 52 this season.

Baltimore is getting healthier as it had a bye ahead of last week’s game. Linebacker Teddye Buchanan (calf), tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) along with corners Nate Wiggins (groin) and T.J. Tampa (shoulder) all were limited Monday in practice. Jackson (hamstring) should finally be ready to go after missing three straight games.

Ravens vs. Dolphins Pick

Spread Pick for Ravens vs. Dolphins

  • Ravens -7.5 (4 units)

Both teams come in off victories last week, but the Ravens should be getting Jackson back under center after missing the last three contests. That is a big boost for Baltimore’s offense and should bolster their production substantially. Miami was impressive last week, but it came against an Atlanta team without their starting quarterback and their #1 receiver. The Dolphins have struggled to stop the run this season and that is problematic against a team with Henry and the dual-threat capability of Jackson. Miami struggles to stop the run and that proves to be their undoing as the Ravens pick up the road win here.

Over/Under Pick for Ravens vs. Dolphins

  • Over 49.5 (4 units)

These two teams have been over machines this season, in part due to dismal defensive performances. The Ravens have seen the over post a 6-1 mark in their seven games on the year. Baltimore has given up at least 37 points in four of their seven games, while they have scored at least 30 points four times this season. Miami has seen the over post a 6-1-1 mark in their eight games. The Dolphins have given up at least 27 points in six of their eight contests this season. They have put up at least 27 points on the board in four games this year. Both teams can score and are abysmal defensively on the year. As a result, take the over in this contest.
