Bills Mount Comeback in Season Opener

The Buffalo Bills are eying their second win of the young season. Buffalo is again considered a Super Bowl contender and should win a subpar division again. The question surrounding the team is: can they have a deep run in the playoffs? The Bills had a huge matchup to begin the season against another contender in the Ravens. They were down 40-25 in the fourth quarter, but MVP Josh Allen came to the rescue, propelling his team to a crazy 41-40 home win. The Bills were a one-point favourite.

Josh Allen had another outstanding season last year, winning the MVP. He amassed 3731 passing yards and a 29:18 TD to INT ratio. He posted 397 passing yards against the Jets last year.  Allen was sharp against the Ravens, throwing for 392 yards and two touchdowns. James Cook managed 44 rushing yards last week. The 25-year-old RB sustained a hamstring injury last week but practiced on Thursday and is going to play.

Khalil Shakir could reach 1000 yards for the first time in his career. He brought in 821 yards last season and 64 receiving yards last week. Keon Coleman is another key receiver, racking up 556 yards in the 2024 season. He amassed 112 yards last week. The Buffalo offense averaged 361 yards per game last year, and piled on 497 yards against the Ravens.

The Bills' defense is strong but not considered one of the best. They brought in Joey Bosa, who has spent his entire career with the Chargers. The 30-year-old defensive end recorded five sacks last year. Bosa made two tackles in his Bills debut. The defense conceded an average of 340 yards per game last season. The unit was not able to contain the Ravens, squandering 238 yards on the ground and a total of 432 yards.

Buffalo averaged 30.6 points per game last season, good for second. The Bills conceded an average of 21.6 points, placing them 12th.

Jets Nearly Stun Steelers in Home Opener

The New York Jets are searching for their first win. New York is in what is considered more of a rebuilding season and could be near the bottom of the standings. The Jets hosted the Steelers to kick off the season and were competitive in a narrow 34-42 home defeat on a late field goal. The Jets were 2.5-point dogs. The New York offense is expected to have trouble scoring, but last week was a good indication that they could surprise. The defense should keep them in many games.

New York has a new man under center in Justin Fields, who spent last year with the Steelers. The 26-year-old has yet to break out in his NFL career. He spent his few seasons in Chicago. Fields recorded 1106 passing yards and a 5:1 TD to INT ratio in 10 games last year. Fields posted an encouraging effort in the opener, connecting on 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards. The offense will run more than pass this season. Breece Hall is expected to have a productive year. The 24-year-old running back amassed 876 rushing yards last year and netted 107 yards against the Steelers.

New York has a star receiver in Garrett Wilson. The 25-year-old has brought in 1000+ yards in every season, including 1100 + yards last year. He was outstanding last week, recording 95 yards. Josh Reynolds was signed after spending last year with Denver and Jacksonville. He brought in 18 yards last week. The New York offense averaged 310 yards per game last season and managed 218 passing yards and 182 rushing yards in the defeat against the Steelers.

The Jets' defense is their top strength and best chance to win games. They will need to be better than they displayed in the opener. Jaman Sherwood had a mammoth 2024 season, making a combined 158 tackles and six tackles last week. The Jets' defense kept opponents to 313 yards per game last year. While the unit gave up 34 points last week, it was only on 271 total yards. Jets top CB Sauce Gardner is questionable, while Michael Carter II is dealing with a shoulder injury and is also questionable for this game.

New York averaged 19.9 points per game last season, ranking them 24th. The defense kept opponents to 23.8 points, placing them 19th.

Bills vs. Jets Pick

Spread Pick for Bills vs. Jets

  • New York Jets +6.5 (5 units)

The Buffalo Bills won their opener but were down 40-25 in the fourth quarter and needed some luck to pull out the win. The Bills' defense was subpar last week. While it was against a potent Baltimore offense, they surrendered 432 total yards. The New York Jets were competitive in their season opener. They only lost by two points and missed out on two-point conversions twice in the game. The offense is a question mark, but if the offense can produce similarly to last week, this squad will surprise opponents, considering they have an outstanding defense.

Furthermore, Josh Allen has a tough assignment against a stingy secondary. The Jets held opponents to 192 passing yards per game last season, ranking them second. This is key, considering Buffalo attempted 46 passes last week. Also, in the Jets' home meeting against the Bills last season, they only lost by three points. Justin Fields was tremendous last week, and Breece Hall registered 107 rushing yards.

Over/Under Pick for Bills vs. Jets

  • Over 46 (5 units)

I expect plenty of scoring. Buffalo scored a total of 60 points against the Jets last season. The Jets 'defense is a strength, but they squandered 34 points against the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers, who was able to connect on 22 of 30 passes against this strong Jets secondary in the opener.

In addition, the Bills were exposed on the ground last week, squandering 238 rushing yards, so expect another monster performance from Jets' RB Breece Hall. Justin Fields was sharp in his Jets debut, recording 218 passing yards. The Bills' secondary is mediocre. They ranked 21st against the pass last season. The over is a convincing 5-1 in the Jets' past six games.
