Chicago hopes offense builds off of strong Week 3 performance
The Bears have struggled to start the season, but the offense is a bright spot, scoring 25.3 points per game, including 31 points in the recent win. Caleb Williams looks like heโs found his footing in his second season under center with 701 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and only one interception, while throwing for 298 yards and four touchdowns last week in their win over the Cowboys. Whatโs stood out is the pass protection, as Williams wasnโt sacked last week, and the receivers stepping up, as Rome Odunze and DJ Moore have combined for 362 receiving yards and five touchdowns on the season so far.
The offense is finally starting to hit its stride, but the defense is still a mess, allowing 31 points per game with 52 points coming in the Week Two stomping at Detroit. The issues start on the edge as Montez Sweat only has one sack this season, and the pass rush must get going if they look to stop some teams. The hope is that the secondary can still force turnovers with Jaylon Johnson out for the season, as linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has two interceptions on the season, while Kevin Biard and Nahshon Wright have combined for two as well.

In terms of injuries, RB D'Andrew Swift (hip) and TE Cole Kmet (groin) were limited in practice on Wednesday. Swift, DT Grady Jarrett and LB TJ Edwards are questionable.
Raiders hope to improve on both sides of the ball
Aside from the 20-13 Week One, the Raiders have been a mess, with their offense only scoring 31 points in the last two weeks. Quarterback Geno Smith has moved the ball down the field with 831 passing yards and four touchdowns, but the turnovers are an issue as heโs thrown four interceptions. It doesnโt help that heโs been sacked 12 times in three games, and the running game is nonexistent with only 217 yards on the ground. The hope is that rookie running back Ashton Jeanty steps up in the backfield while tight end Brock Bowers, who has 179 receiving yards, helps out the passing game. Jeanty was his hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on 11 of 17 attempts against Washington last week.ย Bowers should play, but he's been limited due to a knee injury. Backup TE Michael Mayer (concussion) is listed as questionable.
Along with the offense struggling, the defense has also been a mess, allowing 24.7 points per game, including 41 points last week. Maxx Crosby and Jonah Laulu have five sacks and 22 tackles but the rest of the defense has struggled, allowing opposing offenses to pick them apart. Moreover, the pass defense looks to improve as the Raiders have only had one interception on the season so far, and the hope is veteran safety Jamal Adams can at the very least disrupt passing lanes.
Bears vs Raiders Prediction
Spread Pick for Bears vs. Raiders
- Bears (+1) (4 Units)
The Raiders are expected to bounce back at home but the Bears are coming off a big win, and I see them taking things over from the first period. The Bears, who average 25.3 points per game, should find the endzone at will with Caleb Williams getting great pass protection to make plays down the field. The Bears look to limit the Raiders' offense, which has scored only 31 points in the last two games, with Tremaine Edmunds making plays in the middle of the defense while Montez Sweat gets home a few times on the edge. The Bears should win the game with a strong performance on the road against a team with struggles on the offensive line.
- Over 48 (5 Units)
The two defenses are a mess, and I see this game being a high-scoring one from the opening kickoff. The Raiders should drive down the field against a Bears defense that has allowed 31 points per game, with Geno Smith finding Brock Bowers and the rest of the pass catchers open down the field. The Bears look to build off a game where they scored 31 points and run up the score against a Raiders defense that allowed 41 points last week, with Caleb Williams finding Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and the rest of the receivers open down the field while also making big plays on the ground with his legs. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.
Take the Over on 48 points.
