Cleveland Coming off Best Win of the Season

The Cleveland Browns head into New England with momentum after a 31-6 decisive win over Miami last Sunday at home. The Browns turned to their ground attack in a game played in poor conditions, including heavy winds and rain. The Browns even turned to the Wildcat formation to combat the conditions and confuse the Dolphins’ defense. Rookie running back Quinshon Jenkins was the beneficiary, finishing the game with three touchdowns.

“Any predicament puts yourself in the best position to go out there and prepare for that. During the week of practicing with wet balls and our coaches have been putting us in position to succeed," said Judkins, who finished with 84 rushing yards on 25 carries, including a 46-yard touchdown early in the second quarter to put Cleveland on top.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel managed the game well, completing 13-of-18 passes for 116 yards in the wet conditions. The win was the first of the rookie’s NFL career. The Browns finished with just 206 yards of total offense, including 102 yards on the ground. The team had 15 first downs, including 4-of-11 on third down conversions. Most importantly, the Browns didn’t turn the ball over despite the elements.

The defense took full advantage of the Dolphins’ mistakes on Sunday. In all, they forced four turnovers, including three interceptions. The Browns converted the four turnovers into 21 points, including a pick-six from cornerback Tyson Campbell on the first play of the second half. Safety Rayshawn Jenkins had a big day, recovering a fumble on special teams in the first half and recording an interception in the fourth quarter. They held the Dolphins to just 213 yards of total offense and 1-of-12 on third down conversions.

The Browns are 30th in the NFL in scoring this season. The team is 28th in and 30th in passing. The Browns come in ranked 23rd in red zone offense and are 21st in sacks allowed this season. On the defensive end, the Browns are ranked 13th in points allowed per game in the NFL. They are first against the run and third against the pass. In the red zone, the Browns’ defense is ranked 11th in the league. They are also 11th in sacks per game. The team is ranked 11th in sacks per game. The Browns are 14th in penalty yards per game and 14th in turnover margin.

Key Injuries: TE David Njoku, DT Mike Hall Jr., OT Jack Conklin, and DE Adin Huntington are questionable.

Patriots Look for Fifth Straight

The New England Patriots have found their groove, winning for the fourth straight time on Sunday, 31-13, over the Titans in Tennessee. The winning streak was the team’s longest in a season since 2019, back when Tom Brady was under center and the Patriots won their first seven games. The win was particularly sweet for Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, returning to Tennessee for the first time since being fired two seasons ago.

“I didn’t get that many tickets, I don’t know ...,” Vrabel said of the fans chanting his name in Tennessee. “I’m happy for our players. I think these guys they’re figuring out how to win, they’re figuring out how to practice. I guess it’s humbling to have these people whoever that is cheer for us whether that's the Patriots or Drake Maye or me or anybody else."

Quarterback Drake Maye continued his stellar season, throwing for 222 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 21-of-23 passes and finished with a quarterback rating of 135.9. He has now thrown for over 200 yards and a passer rating of 100 in six straight games. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson finished with 88 yards rushing and a touchdown in the win. The Patriots had 387 yards of total offense and were 5-of-12 in third-down conversions.

Defensively, the Patriots started slowly but shut out the Titans in the second half. The defense finished with five sacks and had an interception and a fumble recovery. Linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson finished with two sacks and picked up a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Marcus Jones picked up an interception late in the game. They held the Titans to 251 yards of total offense, including just 39 yards on the ground.

The Patriots ride a four-game winning streak into this one, but are just 1-2 at home. They come in ranked 8th in the NFL in points per game. They are just 27th in rushing but are 8th in the league through the air. The Patriots are 27th in the league in sacks allowed per game. They rank 12th in the NFL in red zone offense. On the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots are fifth in points allowed per game. They are third against the run and 24th against the pass. The Patriots are 11th in sacks per game this season and are an impressive fifth in red zone defense. The Pats are 26th in penalties per game and are 12th in turnover margin.

Key Injuries: CB Charles Woods and S Jaylinn Hawkins are questionable.

Browns vs. Patriots Pick

Point Spread Pick for Browns at Patriots

  • Patriots -7.5 (4 units)

The Patriots come into this game hot, winners of four straight games. The Patriots have also covered the spread in each of the four wins. The Patriots are 12th in the league in red zone offense. The Browns, however, are just 23rd in the league in red zone offense. The Patriots’ defense has been stout this year, fifth in the NFL in points allowed per game. That will continue here against a Browns team that is just 30th in the NFL in points per game. The Browns are also just 28th in rushing and 30th in passing. Expect Vrabel to dial up a few things to confuse Browns’ rookie QB Gabriel. Cleveland has yet to win on the road this year and has lost by an average of 20 points on the road.

Take the Patriots -7.5

Over/Under Pick for Browns at Patriots

  • Under 40.5 (4 units)

The Browns have had difficulty putting points up this season, particularly on the road. They are averaging 12 points per game away from home and have a rookie quarterback not ready for prime time playing behind a subpar offensive line. The Patriots are only allowing 18 points per game at home. The Patriots will slow down the struggling Browns’ offense and will pick up a comfortable win that stays under the number.

Take the under, 40.5
