Philadelphia Bouncing Back
The Philadelphia Eagles dropped to 7-5 just three weeks ago after dropping their third straight game, 22-19 in OT to the Chargers. Instead of pointing fingers, the Eagles regrouped, particularly on the offensive end, and have won two straight to capture the NFC East crown for the second straight season, following a 29-18 win over the Commanders in DC.
“Gets better and better,” running back Saquon Barkley said as he walked through the scene Saturday night, “each time.”
The resurgence of Barkley has been one of the keys to the Eagles’ recent success. Barkley scored a touchdown for the third straight game and rushed for 132 yards. He has rushed for over 300 yards over the past three games, averaging 110 yards per game. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was also effective, completing 22-of-30 passes for 182 yards and two scores. The Eagles had 26 first downs in the game and 385 yards of total offense, including 210 on the ground.

Defensively, the Eagles nearly shut out the Commanders in the second half, allowing only a late touchdown with under two minutes to play. They held the Commanders to just 2-of-10 on third down conversions. They held the Commanders to just 90 yards on the ground. The Eagles had two sacks and five tackles for loss in the game. Cooper DeJean had an interception for the Eagles, and Zack Baun led the team with nine tackles.
The Eagles have clinched the NFC East crown but can still move up in the standings if they win out. They come into this game ranked 16th in the NFL in points per game. The Eagles are 22nd in rushing and 23rd through the air. The Eagles are 11th in the league in sacks allowed per game. They are 27th in red zone appearances per game and 15th in red zone touchdowns. On the defensive end, the Eagles are third in points allowed per game. They are 21st against the run and 7th against the pass. The Eagles are 12th in the league in sacks per game. They are fourth in fewest red zone appearances allowed and fourth in fewest red zone touchdowns allowed. The Eagles are 28th in penalty yards per game and they are 8th in turnover margin.
Key Injuries: OT Lane Johnson, LB Nakobe Dean, TE Cameron Latu, and DT Jalen Carter are all questionable.
Bills Face Big Test at Home
The Buffalo Bills did just enough last week against the hapless Browns on the road to keep pace with the New England Patriots near the top of the AFC East. After defeating the feisty Browns 23-20, the Bills improved to 11-4 and remain a game behind the Patriots with just two games left in the regular season. On Sunday, instead of leaning on reigning MVP Josh Allen, the Bills rode the legs of James Cook to victory.
“He's the best back in football. I don't know how the awards will shake out, but he should be in the running for every award. He makes our offense go," said Allen, who played the second half despite injuring his right foot during the second quarter after being sacked.
Cook, the NFL’s second-leading rusher, ran for 117 yards and two scores to offset a surprisingly quiet day from Allen. Allen finished 12-of-19 for just 130 yards and rushed for an additional 17 yards on seven carries. It was just the third game all season that Allen failed to have either a rushing or a throwing touchdown. The Bills had just 16 first downs in the game and went just 2-of-8 on third down conversions.
The Bills’ defense delivered when it needed to to preserve the win. They gave up 294 yards of total offense to the Browns, including just 134 yards through the air. The Bills had three sacks and five tackles for loss in the game. They also forced two turnovers. Jordan Poyer and DaQuan Jones each had interceptions. Poyer led the team in tackles with 11 and added a ½ sack.
The Bills are still in the hunt for another AFC East title but can’t afford a loss. They’ve won five of six heading into this matchup. They are fourth in the NFL in scoring this season. The Bills are second in the league in rushing and 18th in passing. The Bills are 18th in sacks allowed per game. The team is seventh in red zone appearances and sixth in red zone touchdowns per game. Defensively, the Bills are 15th in scoring defense. They are 31st against the run and second against the pass. The Bills are 18th in the league in sacks. They are 8th in red zone appearances allowed per game and 19th in red zone touchdowns allowed. The Bills are 18th in penalty yards per game. They are 10th in turnover margin.
Key Injuries: DT Jordan Phillips, PK Matt Prater, DT DaQuan Jones, LB Shaq Thompson, and S Jordan Poyer are all questionable.
Eagles at Ravens
Point Spread Pick for Eagles at RavensÂ
Eagles +1.5 (4 units)
The line has dropped since opening at -3 Buffalo. One reason for that is the resurgence of the Eagles’ offense, particularly Barkley and the running game. The Bills have been awful against the run this season, ranked 31st in the NFL. The Bills have one of the best rushing attacks in the league, but it will be affected on Sunday by Allen’s ankle injury. If Allen isn’t as mobile, the Eagles can zero in on Cook and limit his production. The Eagles’ 7th-ranked pass defense can slow a less mobile Allen and the Bills' 18th-ranked pass attack. Another key factor, the Eagles are an impressive 3-1 on the road this season against winning teams. They’ll pound the Bills with Barkley and set up Hurts and the deep passing game.
Take the Eagles +1.5
Over/Under Pick for Eagles at BillsÂ
- Over 43.5Â
The forecast is cold but clear for Buffalo on Sunday, always a key factor in December games. The Eagles, as noted, have scored 30 points per game over the last two weeks and Barkley is humming. The Bills have scored 26 or more points in four of their last five games. The Bills’ defense is just middle of the pack in points allowed and will have issues slowing down the red-hot Eagles offense.
Take the over, 43.5.
