Last Sunday, the Packers outscored the Cardinals 14-3 in the fourth quarter. Green Bay was outgained 330-262 in total yards, and the Packers committed 10 penalties for 94 yards, but they somehow found the way to come out on top.

Micah Parsons led the way for the Packers in Week 7, posting three sacks and four tackles for loss on the afternoon. Josh Jacobs rushed 13 times for 55 yards and two touchdowns, while Jordan Love was 19-of-29 for 179 yards and a touchdown.

“There were a lot of things that didn't go right,” Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said. “But the guys kept battling and that's what it takes in this league.”

Love is having a solid season. He’s completed 69.3% of his passing attempts while throwing for 1,438 yards, 10 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. WR Romeo Doubs and TE Tucker Kraft have caught four touchdown passes each, while Jacobs leads the backfield with 111 totes for 414 yards and eight touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, Parsons and Rashan Gary have accounted for 5.5 sacks each. The Packers allow 20.8 points per game (tied for 10th in the NFL) on 76.5 rushing yards (2nd) and 212.0 passing yards (15th). They are 19th in the league in red-zone defense (61.1%) and 12th in 3rd down defense (36.9%).

The Steelers are coming off a tough loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2; 3-3 ATS; 4-2 O/U) put an end to their three-game winning streak in Week 7. After beating the New England Patriots 21-14 on the road, the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 in the NFL Dublin Game, and the Cleveland Browns 23-9 at home, the Steelers suffered a 33-31 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals this past Thursday.

Week 7 Thursday Night Football was one of the best games of the season. The Steelers took a 10-0 lead, and the Bengals responded with 20 straight points. The fourth quarter was a proper thriller, and the Bengals walked it off on Evan McPherson’s 45-yard field goal.

Cincinnati outgained Pittsburgh 470-396 in total yards. The Steelers racked up 147 rushing yards on just 20 attempts, but they gave up 142 in return on 23 attempts. Joe Flacco tortured Pittsburgh for 342 yards and three touchdowns, while Aaron Rodgers went 23-of-34 for 249 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.

“I just thought the first half we allowed them to run the ball too much," Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said. “Then we turned the ball over a couple of times, and that just kind of set a negative trajectory. We’re fighting uphill the rest of the way.”

Rodgers posted his season-high in passing yards last week, while Jaylen Warren set his season-high with 127 rushing yards. Through his first six games with the Steelers, Rodgers has tossed for 1,270 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions, and D.K. Metcalf leads the receiving corps with 22 catches for 406 yards and four touchdowns.

Pittsburgh’s defense has been inconsistent thus far, yielding 23.3 points per game (tied for 18th in the NFL) on 115.8 rushing yards (17th) and 258.8 passing yards (31st). The Steelers rank fifth in red-zone defense (47.8%) and 25th in 3rd down defense (41.9%).

Packers vs. Steelers Pick

Spread Pick for Packers vs. Steelers

  • Pittsburgh Steelers +3.0 (5 units)

The Packers have injury worries ahead of Week 8. They had nine limited participants in Wednesday’s practice, including Josh Jacobs, safety Xavier McKinney, tackle Anthony Belton, and guard Aaron Banks. Moreover, WR Dontayvion Wicks, DL Lukas Van Ness, and kicker Brandon McManus didn’t practice on Wednesday. WR Christian Watson was also limited and is listed as questionable to play against the Steelers, who can count on all of their important players.

I expect a tight battle between these two teams. They have enough weapons to take advantage of each other’s shortcomings. Both teams have struggled against the pass thus far, and I expect more of the same. The Packers’ run defense has been outstanding so far this season, so the Steelers will lean on their receiving corps and Aaron Rodgers’ arm.

Give me the Steelers. Pittsburgh is 7-2 ATS in its last nine home games. On the other side, Green Bay is 1-4 ATS in its last five games overall and 0-5 ATS in its previous five showings on the road.

Over/Under Pick for Packers vs. Steelers

  • Over 45.5 (5 units)

I noted that these two teams have allowed a lot of passing yards thus far, especially the Steelers. Pittsburgh’s defense has struggled on 3rd down, while Green Bay’s defense has struggled in the red zone. Both teams have allowed 10 touchdowns through the air.

Hereof, I will take the over. The Packers are seventh in the NFL in scoring offense (26.3 points per game), and the Steelers are tied for 11th in this category (25.0). Pittsburgh has scored 14 of its 17 touchdowns through the air.

Five of the previous six encounters between Green Bay and Pittsburgh have gone over the total.
