Las Vegas Hoping to Earn Road Win

Las Vegas had opportunities against the Bears but ended up falling short as breakdowns in all three phases cost them dearly. The Raiders fell to 1-3 on the season and are in the basement of the AFC West, two games behind the Chargers for the top spot. Against Chicago, Las Vegas led 7-3 after one quarter, 14-9 at the half and 21-16 after three quarters. The Raiders led 24-19 only to give up the winning touchdown with 1:34 to play. Las Vegas drove into field goal range, but Daniel Carlson’s 54-yard field goal attempt with 38 seconds remaining was blocked. The Raiders owned a 357-271 edge in total offense and picked up 17 first downs while allowing 16 and lost time of possession by a 33:10 to 26:50 margin. Las Vegas was done in by turnovers as they committed four giveaways while forcing just one takeaway in the contest.

For the season, the Raiders are 14th in the league in passing offense with 215.3 yards per contest, while they are 14th in rushing offense by averaging 114.3 yards per contest. Las Vegas is 24th in scoring offense as they average 19.3 points per contest, while they are 22nd in scoring defense as they allow 24.8 points per game. Geno Smith has completed 81 of 127 passes for 948 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has been sacked 12 times while ranking second on the team with 66 rushing yards.  Ashton Jeanty leads the ground game with 68 carries for 282 yards and two scores on the season. Zamir White (10 carries, 25 yards) and Raheem Mostert (four carries, 62 yards) are also in the mix. Rookie tight end Brock Bowers is second on the team with 19 receptions for 225 yards this season. Jakobi Meyers (21 catches, 258 yards), Tre Tucker (15 grabs, 224 yards, four TD) and Dont’e Thornton (five receptions, 94 yards) are other valuable targets. Daniel Carlson has hit six of six extra point attempts and seven of nine field goal attempts with a long of 54 this year.

Bowers (knee) and linebacker Brennan Jackson (foot) were both limited on Wednesday and did not practice on Thursday. Wide receiver Justin Shorter (illness) didn’t practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday. Cornerback Eric Stokes (knee) and tight end Michael Mayer (concussion) were limited on Wednesday and Thursday, while defensive end Maxx Crosby (knee) was limited on Thursday. Colts Try to Regroup After Missed Chance

Indianapolis gave the Rams all they wanted, but a couple of major miscues, one on each side of the ball, knocked them from the ranks of the unbeaten last week. The Colts dropped to 3-1 on the year and stand tied with Jacksonville for the top spot in the AFC South. Against the Rams, Indianapolis was even after the opening quarter, trailed 13-10 at the half and after three quarters. The Colts took a 20-13 lead with 8:58 remaining but gave up the game’s final 14 points, including an 88-yard touchdown pass with 1:33 to play. Indianapolis was also stung by a bonehead play by Adonai Mitchell, who fumbled the ball through the end zone, showboating on what would have been a 76-yard TD pass in the third quarter. The Colts were outgained 462-333 in total offense, gave up 24 first downs while picking up 17, lost time of possession by a 31:44 to 28:16 and turned the ball over three times while recording just one takeaway.

On the year, the Colts are 4th in the league in passing offense with an average of 261 yards per game through the air while they are 8th in rushing offense with 136.3 yards per contest on the ground. Indianapolis is 4th in the league in scoring offense with 30.8 points per game, while they stand 11th in scoring defense by allowing 20.8 points per contest. Daniel Jones is 87 of 121 passing for 1,078 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 54 yards and three scores on the ground. Anthony Richardson is the backup quarterback. Jonathan Taylor leads the team with 77 carries for 414 yards plus three scores on the ground this season. DJ Giddens (13 carries, 44 yards) is next in line. Michael Pittman Jr. is leading the team with 21 receptions for 234 yards plus three scores on the year. Josh Downs (14 catches, 121 yards), Alec Pierce (nine receptions, 171 yards), Taylor (13 receptions, Tyler Warren (19 grabs, 263 yards) and Adonai Mitchell (seven catches, 137 yards) are all over 100 receiving yards this season. Spencer Shrader hit all 12 extra point attempts and 13 of 14 field goal attempts with a long of 52 on the year.

Indianapolis committed their first three turnovers of the season last week and are a +3 in the turnover battle. The Raiders have had their issues stopping the run and that works to the Colts’ favor. Look for Taylor to have a big game to lead Indianapolis to a home victory.
