Raiders look to build upon last week’s win
Las Vegas is 2-4 overall this season. The Raiders started the season with a road win over the Patriots, but they followed it with four straight defeats. Three of their four losses have come by multiple possessions. The Raiders were able to snap their losing skid with a key win last week.
In their last game, the Raiders defeated the Titans 20-10 in Week 6 on Sunday, Oct. 12. It was a big win for Las Vegas, which never trailed in the outing. Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 174 yards on 17-for-23 passing. He finished with a touchdown and an interception. The rushing attack was led by rooking Ashton Jeanty, who had 75 yards and a score. Las Vegas’ defense allowed just 225 yards of offense and forced Tennessee to go 3-for-13 on third down. They also forced three turnovers in the win.
Smith has been shaky this season in his first year back with Pete Carroll as head coach. He’s thrown for 1,350 yards and has completed 66% of his passes. He’s tossed seven touchdowns, but has been picked off 10 times. The wide receiver room lacks a No. 1 option with Tre Tucker leading the team in yards. Jakobi Meyers has the most targets on the team, too. Jeanty has looked like a solid back with 424 total rushing yards. He’s averaged 4.0 yards per carry and has scored three touchdowns.

“He’s got incredible contact balance,” Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Dru Tranquill said about Jeanty. “You see it in that 60-plus-yard touchdown run he broke, where he was able to break the leg tackle there going down the sideline. Obviously, we know what he did at Boise State, so they’re giving him a lot of touches. I think in Indianapolis, they gave him a swing pass for 40 yards to open the game. So they’re trying to get him the ball in a lot of different ways — and obviously they think very highly of him.”
On defense, the Raiders are led in tackles by linebacker Devin White. He has 48 tackles, which is 10 more than anyone else on the team. Jonah Laulu and Maxx Crosby both have four sacks each to lead the team, which have accounted for 14 total sacks. The defense has forced just seven turnovers on the year.
Las Vegas is averaging 17.2 points per game, which ranks third-worst in the league. They are throwing for 201.5 passing yards per game, which ranks 20th. The Raiders are the 24th-ranked rushing offense, going for 105.2 yards per game on the ground.
On defense, Las Vegas is allowing 24.8 points per game, which ranks 23rd. The Raiders are the 10th-best rushing defense, giving up 95.3 yards per game. They are the 19th-ranked passing defense, allowing 215.7 yards through the air.
Las Vegas is 2-4 against the spread this season. They are 1-3 against the spread when they have been underdogs. The Raiders are 1-2 against the spread when they have played on the road. The under is 4-2 when the Raiders have played this season. The under is 2-1 when the Raiders have played on the road. The under is 3-1 when the total has been set at 45 points or higher.
As of Thursday, tight end Brock Bowers, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, and wide receiver Justin Shorter did not participate in practice. The Raiders listed running back Dylan Laube and wide receiver Alex Bachman as limited in Thursday’s practice.
Kansas City bolsters offense
Kansas City is 3-3 this season. The Chiefs have struggled to find consistency, but after last week’s game, it could be the momentum boost that they need. Kansas City opened the season with back-to-back losses to the Chargers and the Eagles. They followed it with wins over the Giants and the Ravens.
A defeat to Jacksonville forced them to take a step back before dominating Detroit in Week 6. They will look to keep things rolling against a Las Vegas team that they have dominated over the previous eight years. The Chiefs have won 13 of their last 15 games over the Raiders dating back to 2017.
In their last game, the Chiefs defeated the Lions 30-17 at home on Sunday, Oct. 12. Detroit held a 10-6 lead halfway through the first half. Kansas City scored 14 unanswered points before another Detroit touchdown cut Kansas City’s lead to 20-17. The Chiefs solidified the win with a passing touchdown from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a 33-yard field goal from Harrison Butler in the fourth quarter to win.
Mahomes threw for 257 yards on 22-for-30 passing. He has three touchdowns and zero picks. The rushing attack started to pick things up as Isiah Pacheco led the team with 51 yards on 12 carries. Travis Kielce turned back the clock with a team-high 78 yards while Hollywood Brown secured two touchdowns.
Consistency has been an issue for the Chiefs through the first few weeks. If they play like they did against the Lions, they can beat anyone. If Kansas City plays like it did a few weeks ago versus Jacksonville, losses will mount. One key thing is that they don’t turn the ball over. Mahomes has tossed 1,514 yards and has completed 65% of his passes while throwing just two picks, the only two turnovers for the entire team. Now add WR Rashee Rice, coming back from suspension, and this offense should be tough to stop.
“He’s one of the greatest to do it, period,” Raiders Maxx Crosby said. “And so when you’re going against a guy like that, he provides a lot of challenges in different ways. Just watching the film this year, he’s been a little more aggressive, tucking the ball and running it. It’s something that he’s typically done in the playoffs more, but he’s doing it now, even in the regular season, and it makes it harder on defenses and stresses them out even more.
On defense, Nick Bolton leads the roster with 53 tackles, while Chamarri Conner also owns 51 tackles. George Karlaftis has a team-high 3.5 sacks, too. The defense has forced six turnovers on the season.
Kansas City is averaging 25.8 points per game, which ranks ninth best. They have turned the ball over the second fewest times. The Chiefs are throwing for 241.3 yards, which ranks ninth best. They are the 14th-ranked rushing offense, putting together 118.7 yards per game.
The Chiefs are allowing 20.7 points per game, which ranks 11th overall. They are allowing 192 passing yards per game, placing them eighth. Kansas City ranks 18th in rush yards allowed, giving up 119.2 yards per game.
Kansas City is 3-3 against the spread this season. They are 2-2 against the spread when they have been favored. They are 2-1 when the Chiefs have played at home. The total is 3-3 when the Chiefs have played this season. The under is 2-1 when they have played at home.
As of Thursday, offensive tackle Josh Simmons was the lone player listed as out from practice. The rest of the team was a full participant.
Las Vegas Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs Picks
Raiders vs. Chiefs Spread Pick
- Kansas City Chiefs -13 (5 units)
The Raiders head to Kansas City for one of the top rivalry clashes in the league. The two teams do not like each other, and the Chiefs have dominated the series over the previous years. They have won 13 of the last 15 games against the Raiders, and I don’t see it stopping now. Geno Smith is a turnover machine; he’s thrown 10 interceptions already this season. In their two wins, the Raiders' offense has barely accumulated enough yardage to compete against the league’s top teams. The Chiefs showcased their talents in a big win last week and after a slow start, they are capable to getting back into the playoff race. Three of Las Vegas’ four losses this year have come by multiple possessions. Kansas City has the weapons to dominate the Raiders in this game. They need to avoid penalties and establish the run, which is possible against a Raiders team that is the 23rd-ranked scoring defense.
Take Kansas City to cover.
Raiders vs. Chiefs Over/Under Pick
- Under 45.5 (5 Units)
This game has the makings of a defensive masterclass for the Chiefs. The schedule for Kansas City has been difficult so far, with an easy win over the Giants being their most lopsided so far. The Raiders' offense will be one of the worst that they have faced this year. Behind their home field advantage, it’s hard to see Las Vegas doing much, especially with an offense averaging the third-fewest points per game. The under is 2-1 when the Chiefs have played at home. The under is 2-1 when the Raiders have played on the road. The under is 3-1 when the total has been set at 45 points or higher for Raiders games, too.
Take the under on Sunday.
