The Baltimore Ravens (1-4) host the Los Angeles Rams (3-2) on Sunday, with both teams looking to rebound after recent losses. The Rams are coming off a tough 26-23 overtime defeat to an injury-depleted San Francisco 49ers squad last Thursday. Meanwhile, the Ravens have dropped three straight, after falling 38-30 to Detroit, 37-20 to Kansas City, and suffering a 44-10 blowout loss to Houston last Sunday.

When these teams last met on December 10, 2023, Baltimore pulled out a 37-31 overtime victory. Check out more winning NFL Free Picks and dominate the books.

Stafford and Nacua leading the NFL

The Rams’ offense ranks second in the league in total yards at 401.8 per game and quarterback Matthew Stafford leads the NFL with 1,503 passing yards. Stafford also ranks second with 11 passing touchdowns against just two interceptions.

Puka Nacua has been Stafford's biggest target, leading the entire NFL with 52 receptions for 588 yards and two touchdowns. Davante Adams is having a strong year as well, ranking second on the team with 22 receptions for 357 yards and three scores. Weather permitting (74% chance of rain), both players could have big numbers on the road against a decimated Ravens' defense. On the ground, Kyren Williams and Blake Corum have provided solid balance. Williams has rushed for 368 yards at 4.5 per carry, while Corum has added 133 yards at a 5.5-yard average.

Defensively, the Rams have been strong, allowing just 309 yards per game (10th in the league) and only 4.8 yards per play, which ranks fifth-best in the NFL. They also rank 10th in yards allowed per game at 93.6, and they are third in rushing yards allowed per attempt (3.5ypc), which could be a huge key in this game.

Ravens’ Ups and Downs and Lamar Jackson’s Absence

Baltimore’s 1-4 start is its worst since 2015, but the Ravens are still favored (+100) to win the AFC North, just ahead of the Steelers (+115). The offense has put points on the board — sixth in the NFL at 28.2 per game — but hasn’t moved the ball efficiently, ranking 23rd with just 311.8 yards per game. The bigger problem is defense. Baltimore ranks dead last in points allowed (35.4 per game), 31st in total yards allowed (408.8), and 31st in passing yards allowed (262.4).

Lamar Jackson will miss his second straight game with a hamstring injury. His replacement, Cooper Rush, struggled last week against the Texans, throwing three interceptions in a 44-10 loss. If Rush and the Ravens’ offense want to turn things around Sunday, they’ll need to get their running game back on track.

In Week 1’s 41-40 loss to Buffalo, Derrick Henry ran wild for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 9.4 yards per carry. Since then, the ground attack has sputtered. Henry has just 148 yards and two scores over the past four games, averaging only 3.2 yards per attempt.

The defense has been the main issue for the Ravens, where they've been hampered by injuries as Pro Bowl DT Nmamdi Madubuike (neck) is out for the season, LB Roquan Smith (hamstring) is expected to miss his second straight game and Pro Bowl CB Marlon Humphrey (hamstring) may also miss his second straight game. The safety position, however, has been bolstered with the expected return of Pro Bowler Kyle Hamilton (groin) and the additions of C.J. Gardner-Johnson (FA) and S Alohi Gilman (trade Chargers). They dealt away young OLB Odafe Oweh to get Gilman from Los Angeles, where Jim Harbaugh (younger brother of John) resided as head coach and former Ravens Director of Player Personnel Joe Hortiz is their GM.

Los Angeles Rams vs Baltimore Ravens Predictions

Spread Pick for Rams vs. Ravens

  • Rams -7.5 (4 units)

I'm not crazy about laying big numbers on a road team, especially against a Ravens squad desperate for a win. But this matchup clearly favors the Rams.

Without Lamar Jackson, Baltimore’s offense will struggle to keep pace. The Rams have been torching teams through the air, and they also have one of the league’s better defenses, ranking fifth in yards allowed per play at just 4.8. Baltimore’s defense is 28th, giving up 5.8 yards per play, which is a bad matchup going up against a Los Angeles offense that leads the NFL with 6.4 yards per play. Adding two new safeties will help some against the pass, but the Ravens have a bigger issue up front. After Baltimore allowed 44 points to the Texans last week, I expect the Rams to put up plenty of points, making them the play to cover the spread.

Total Prediction for Rams vs. Ravens

  • Over 44.5 (5 units)

The Rams lead the NFL in yards per play at 6.4, and even without Lamar Jackson, Baltimore still has an offense that can score, ranking sixth in points per game. Cooper Rush isn’t Jackson, but he’s an experienced quarterback with Derrick Henry powering the run game and a solid group of receivers around him.

With Baltimore’s shaky defense and the Rams’ explosive offense, this matchup has shootout potential. Both teams can produce big plays, and I am taking the over.
