Rams hope to Score More Points
The Los Angeles Rams picked up an opening-day win last Sunday over the visiting Houston Texans, 14-9. It wasn’t pretty, but the Rams got the job done as they attempt to return to the playoffs again in 2025. They’ll now travel East and endure an early start time against the Titans.
“I thought we did as many things as we (could possibly) do to not be able to put that game away, but what I do love about this group is they’re resilient,” said coach Sean McVay, who improved to 7-2 in openers. “They keep responding. I thought we really found a way.”
It was a historic day for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford on Sunday. He finished 21-of-29 passing with 245 yards and a touchdown. In doing so, he became the 10th quarterback in NFL history to exceed 60,000 yards passing. The Rams finished with 114 yards rushing as well, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Running back Kyren Williams had 18 carries for 66 yards rushing and one touchdown. Wide receiver Puka Nacua had 10 catches for 130 yards and survived a blow to the head that briefly sidelined him. Tight end Davis Allen caught the team’s only touchdown pass. The Rams were 2-for-3 in the red zone and finished 7-of-13 on third down.

The Rams’ defense held the Texans to just nine points, without a touchdown. They allowed 114 yards rushing, at 4.2 yards per carry. They allowed 151 yards passing, and Cobie Durant had an interception. Braden Fiske forced and recovered a fumble to seal the win with under 2:00 minutes to go in the game. The Rams also had three sacks in the game.
Key Injuries: G Kevin Dotson, G Steve Avila, OT Rob Havenstein, TE Davis Allen, and TE Colby Parkinson are all questionable.
Take two for Ward and the Titans
The Tennessee Titans return home after a disappointing 20-12 loss to the Broncos in Denver in the first game of rookie quarterback Cam Ward’s career. The Titans struggled offensively but did hold a potent Denver offense in check and caused turnovers. The Titans couldn’t turn the turnovers into success, however. They managed just six points off of four turnovers.
“Incredibly frustrating,” Tennessee coach Brian Callahan said. “Those are opportunities to score points and put the game away and we didn’t do it.”
Ward and the Titans’ offense were tested by one of the toughest defenses in the NFL last week. Ward finished the game just 12-of-28 for 112 yards and was sacked six times. The Titans were just 2-of-14 on third down conversions in the game. The Titans also rushed for just 78 yards, amassing a total of 133 yards of total offense. The team turned the ball over twice and finished 0-for-2 in the red zone.
Defensively, the Titans were opportunistic, creating four turnovers. They did allow the Broncos to rush for 151 yards on an average of 5.0 yards per carry. The Broncos threw for just 166 yards against the Titans’ defense, with Xavier Woods and Roger McCeary each recording an interception. The Titans possessed the ball for 28:04 in the game. They did themselves in with penalties, racking up 13 penalties for 131 yards in the contest.
Key Injuries: RB Kalel Mullings, DT T’Vondre Sweat, CB L’Jarius Sneed, LB Arden Key, and S Quandre Diggs are questionable.
Rams vs. Titans Pick
Point Spread Pick for Rams vs. TitansÂ
- Rams -5.5 (4 units)
The Rams’ defense will be the story against rookie quarterback Ward next week. They are an underrated unit that will wreak havoc on the young signal caller. Ward was sacked six times last week and fumbled once, along with an interception. He’ll see plenty of different looks once again from the Rams and that won’t play to his advantage. The Rams’ offense was quiet against a very good Texans defense, but I expect a bounce-back game here. The Titans gave up five yards per carry to the Broncos. That should bode well for Rams’ running back Williams. If Williams gets going, that should open things up for Nakua and veteran wideout DaVante Adams. The Rams survived a rough start, but they’ll win comfortably on Sunday.
Take the Rams -5.5
Over/Under Pick for Giants at CowboysÂ
- Over 41.5 (4 units)
The Titans’ offense is very much a work in progress at the moment. Rookie quarterbacks generally take some time to get comfortable in the NFL and Ward does not appear to be an exception. He was sacked early and often and struggled to find open receivers against the Broncos. The Rams’ defense will present similar problems, particularly in rushing the quarterback. The Rams scored just 14 points in week one, and I do expect a vast improvement in this game. Still, they will do most of the damage here, making the under the better play.
Take the under 41.5
