Miami Eyeing Playoff Run
The Dolphins had high hopes going into last season, but injuries and off-field drama derailed their season. They have most of their core players coming back and picked up key pieces like safety Minkah Fitzgerald, in hopes of getting back in the playoffs. This is also a big season for head coach Mike McDaniel, who is reportedly on the hot seat.
Miami averaged 20.3 points per game last season, which was 22nd in the league. They threw for 219.8 yards and rushed for 105.6 yards per game.
Tua Tagovailoa played only 11 games last season due to injuries. He completed 73 percent of his passes for 2,867 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Speedy running back De’Von Archane had 907 rushing yards and six touchdowns, while Tyreke Hill had 959 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Miami gave up 21.4 points per game last season, which was ninth in the league. They were eighth against the run and 10th against the pass.
Indianapolis Aiming For AFC South Title
The Colts had a disappointing campaign last season, winning only eight games after a nine-win campaign in 2023. They demoted last season’s starter, Anthony Richardson, and named former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones as their starter for the season.
They are hoping that Jones will provide some stability at the position and help them challenge Houston for the AFC Title.
Indianapolis averaged 22.2 points per game last season, which was 16th in the league. They threw for 197.7 yards and rushed for 137.1 yards per game.
Jones completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also had 265 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 10 games played. Jonathan Taylor had 1,431 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, while Alec Pierce had 824 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Indianapolis gave up 25.1 points per game, which was 24th in the league. They were 23rd against the run and 26th against the pass. They were also decimated by injuries in the back end and brought in former Miami Pro Bowl corner Xavien Howard to bolster the secondary.
Dolphins vs. Colts Picks
Spread Pick for Dolphins vs. Colts
- Miami Dolphins Even (4 Units)
The Dolphins had one of the best offenses in the league in 2023 when they were healthy, so expect them to return to form this season. They’re facing a team that struggled against the run last season, so expect to see a healthy dose of Archane, who had 77 yards on a 5.1 yards per carry average against them last season. Their running game will open up the play-action pass for them, and with Indianapolis having the 26th pass defense in the league last season, expect them to have a hard time slowing down the Dolphins.
Indianapolis won't be as successful offensively because of its quarterback situation. The Dolphins know they will try to keep the ball in the hands of Taylor because they’re breaking in a new quarterback, who has been turnover-prone, with 47 interceptions in six seasons. This will allow them to stack the box and make Jones try to beat them with his arm, which isn’t going to happen, so go with Miami to cover the spread.
Over/Under Pick for Dolphins vs. Colts
- Over 46 (4 Units)
The Dolphins played over the total in two of their last three games, while the Colts played over the total in their last three games. Miami averaged 20.3 points per game last season. They threw the ball 59 percent of the time and will be able to move the ball through the air against a defense that was 26th against the pass and gave up 25.1 points per game. The Colts averaged 22.2 points per game last season. They threw the ball 52 percent of the time, and they’re facing a defense that was 10th in the league against the pass and gave up 21.4 points per game. Expect these teams to score enough points to push the score over the total.
The Indianapolis Colts will be going for their third consecutive win over the Miami Dolphins when they play on Sunday afternoon. Which one of these teams will get the win? Continue reading this Dolphins vs. Colts prediction to find out.
