Minnesota Facing More Questions Than Answers

Minnesota lost their third straight and their fifth in the last six games as they were stifled on the road by Green Bay last Sunday. The Vikings fell to 4-7 on the year and are in the basement of the NFC North, four games behind the Bears for the top spot. They stood 12th in the NFC playoff picture, 3.5 games behind the 49ers for the final wild-card spot. Against Green Bay, Minnesota kicked a field goal on their opening possession to take a 3-0 lead, but that was their lone lead of the contest. The Vikings trailed 7-3 after the opening quarter and 10-6 at the half before getting blanked in the second half en route to the loss. Minnesota was beaten 288-145 in total offense, allowed 22 first downs while recording 10, lost time of possession by a 37:15 to 22:45 margin and turned the ball over three times while failing to record a takeaway in the contest.

Seahawks Trying to Solidify Hold on Playoff Position

Seattle won for the fifth time in six games as they downed Tennessee on the road last Sunday. The Seahawks improved to 8-3 on the year and stood second in the NFC West, one game behind the Rams for the top spot. They entered the weekend holding the top wild-card spot in the NFC. Against Tennessee, Seattle gave up a field goal on the Titans’ opening drive but scored 16 unanswered points to lead 16-3 at the half. The Seahawks pushed their margin to 23-3 in the third quarter and held off a Titans’ rally to earn the victory. Seattle rolled up a 353-296 advantage in total offense, recorded 19 first downs while picking up 18, and overcame a 37:25 to 22:35 beating in time of possession. There were no turnovers in the game, though the Seahawks did allow a punt return for a score.

This season, the Seahawks are 4th in the league in passing offense as they average 248.5 yards per game through the air and 16th in rushing offense with 116.2 yards per contest on the ground. Vikings vs. Seahawks Pick

Spread Pick for Vikings vs. Seahawks

  • Seahawks -11.5 (4 units)

Seattle has played well with five wins in their last six, and facing a Minnesota team that seems to be crumbling at the seams is a good way to maintain momentum. One thing we’ve seen is that these teams are prone to coughing up the ball. The Seahawks have committed 20 turnovers and stand a -7 in the takeaway/giveaway department on the year. Meanwhile, Minnesota has turned the ball over 21 times and stands -12 in the takeaway/giveaway department on the year. McCarthy hasn’t proved that he is the answer at quarterback for the Vikings, and their offense has sputtered. Seattle has momentum, and they are better on both sides of the ball. Take the Seahawks in this contest as they keep pressure on the Rams for the top spot in the NFC West.

Over/Under Pick for Vikings vs. Seahawks

  • Over 41 (4 units)

Minnesota has gone over the mark in seven of their 11 games on the year. The Vikings have gone over the total in five of their six road games this season, with last week’s defeat at Lambeau Field the lone under on the books. Seattle has gone over the number in seven of their 11 games on the year. Four of Seattle’s five home games have wound up over the mark entering this game, including each of their last four. The Seahawks have put up at least 27 points seven times this season and they should do damage against a fraying Vikings’ defense. Look for Seattle to come up with enough points here to push this one over the total.
