Patriots undefeated on the road this season

New England is 12-3 overall this season. They are in first place in the AFC East and they have already clinched a playoff berth. The Patriots are just one game ahead of the Bills for the top spot in the division. New England is undefeated on the road with a perfect 7-0 record. They are the only remaining team in the NFL with an undefeated road record. The Patriots are just behind Denver for the No. 1 overall seed as the Broncos are 13-3. After having their 10 game winning streak snapped by Buffalo, the Patriots were able to bounce back in their latest game.

In their last game, the Patriots defeated Baltimore 28-24 on the road on Sunday, Dec. 21. New England trailed by 11 points and were able clinch the win thanks to some big plays by quarterback Drake Maye. The quarterback threw for 380 yards on 31-for-44 passing, two touchdowns and one pick. It was a massive game for Stefon Diggs, who led the team with 138 yards on nine catches.

“We're going to try to win the division. We're going to focus on that,” New England coach Mike Vrabel said. “I'm excited. All the credit to the players. When we win, it's because of them.”

Maye has been fantastic this season with 3,947 passing yards and a 71% completion rate. He has thrown 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the season. TreVeyon Henderson leads the running back room with 776 yards and seven touchdowns. Diggs has a team-high 869 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

On defense, the Patriots are led in tackles by Robert Spillane with 97. Harold Landry III has a team-high 8.5 sacks. The defense has also forced 16 turnovers on the season.

The Patriots are 0-1 against the spread when they have been double-digit favorites. The over is 9-6 when New England has played this season. The over is 4-3 when they have played on the road. The over is 5-4 when New England has been favored.

Jets quarterback issues persist, losers of three straight

New York is 3-12 overall this season. They are in last place in the AFC East and they hold the second-worst record in the sport. The Jets are 2-6 when they have played at home this season. They have lost three straight games, but they have won three of their last eight games.

In their last game, the Jets lost 29-6 to the Saints away from home on Sunday, Dec. 21. The Jets scored off of two field goals as they allowed 23 unanswered points in the final 42 minutes of the game. The Jets couldn't move the ball with chunk plays as quarterback Brady Cook threw for 188 yards on 22-for-35 passing and one interception. Breece Hall led the running backs with 54 yards on 16 carries. This was the sixth straight games that the Jets defense allowed 23 points or more.

Cook, an undrafted rookie, has taken over as the starting quarterback due to the benching of Justin Fields and the injury to Tyrod Taylor. In three games, Cook has thrown for 527 yards on 59% passing. He is averaging 35 more yards per game than any of the other starters. The Missouri product has thrown just one touchdown and six interceptions. Hall has rushed for a team-high 954 yards and three touchdowns on the year.

On defense, the Jets are led in tackles by Jamie Sherwood with 140. Will McDonald IV, who was placed on the IR this week, has a team-high eight sacks. The defense has yet to record an interception, while they have recovered four fumbles.

The Jets are averaging 18.8 points per game, which ranks 28th in the league. They are the worst passing attack in the NFL with 145.9 yards per game. New York is also averaging 124.2 rushing yards per game, placing them 11th.

On defense, the Jets are allowing 28.4 points per game, which ranks third-worst. They are the 28th ranked rush defense giving up 133.7 yards per game. New York is also allowing 208.7 passing yards per game, placing them 12th.

The Jets are 8-7 against the spread this season. They are 4-4 against the spread when playing at home. New York is 2-1 against the spread as a double-digit underdog. They have been underdogs in every game this season. The over is 9-6 when the Jets have played this season. The over is 4-3 when the Jets have played at home. The under is 2-1 when the Jets have been double-digit underdogs.

Patriots vs Jets Spread Pick

  • New York Jets +13.5 (5 units)

The only reason that I’m siding with the Jets is because of this large number. Two touchdowns is a lot to cover even for the best team in the division. The Jets competed with New England in their first outing, losing by 13 points. This week, they should be able to contend a bit better with rookie quarterback Brady Cook finding more comfort in his role. The Jets rushing attack led by Breece Hall should find success with the Patriots star linebacker Robert Spillane out with an injury. Drake Maye has been great this season, but the Jets have surprisingly been good against the pass. They rank 12th in pass yards allowed per game. The Patriots will win this game, but it will not be a blowout as New England could struggle in a situation that they are unfamiliar in, contending for the divisional crown. New England is  5-4 against the spread when they have been favored. The Patriots are 0-1 against the spread when they have been double-digit favorites. The Jets are 4-4 against the spread when playing at home. New York is 2-1 against the spread as a double-digit underdog.

Take the Jets to cover.

Patriots vs Jets Over/Under Pick

  • Over 43 (5 units)

The Patriots offense has been great this season with Drake Maye becoming a real force and MVP candidate. The defense will also be missing some key pieces, which could allow the Jets offense to move the ball especially in the run game. The Jets defense has allowed 23 points in six straight games and they should allow that much in this game, too. Expect the over to hit with the Jets defense leaking points and their offense being able to put up a surprisingly enough to contend. The over is 4-3 when the Jets have played at home. The over is 4-3 when the Patriots have played on the road. The over is 5-4 when New England has been favored.

Take the over on Sunday.
