New England is Undefeated on the Road
The New England Patriots have two losses on the season, but both of them came in Foxborough as the Pats have an untouchable 4-0 record on the road. They have been the surprise team in the AFC, along with the Colts, as New England is now a half-game ahead of the Bills for the lead in the AFC East as we hit the mid-point of the season. On top of this, New England is on a hot streak, as they have won six straight games coming into this battle in Tampa. In their last game, Drake Maye threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns in their win over Atlanta.
Drake Maye has been excellent so far this season and has inserted his name into MVP races, which will continue to heat up if he can keep leading the Patriots to wins. So far this season, he is averaging 253.9 passing yards per game, with a strong 17-4 TD-INT ratio, and completing an absurd 74.1% of his passes. Maye is a capable runner early in his career, as he already has 270 rushing yards on the year. When the Patriots do hand the ball off, they share carries with TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson. Henderson will have to carry the load this game, as Stevenson is out with a toe injury. Henderson has 283 rushing yards and a touchdown on the year.
Stefon Diggs is their veteran receiver who came over after stops in Minnesota and Buffalo. He leads the team with 508 yards to go with his 45 pass catches. Hunter Henry is a strong tight end who will be featured more than usual with receiver Kayshon Boutte out with an injury. Their defense has 20 total sacks on the year, led by linebacker Harold Landry III with 5.5 sacks. They have seven team interceptions, with three members of the secondary tied with two a piece.

Buccaneers are on Top of the South
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won three of their last four games and are still on top of the NFC South, putting themselves in a strong position for a playoff spot. Their lone loss in the stretch came against the Lions on the road, going down 24-9 in that battle. Meanwhile, Tampa has been picking up wins against its NFC opponents, with recent wins over the Seahawks, 49ers and Saints. In their last game, Baker Mayfield needed only 152 passing yards to lead the Bucs to a 23-3 win over New Orleans.
Mayfield helped to lead the team to multiple game-winning drives this season, as the Buccaneers have been excellent in one-score games this season. So far Mayfield is averaging 239.9 passing yards per game, with a 13-2 TD-INT ratio while completing 63.9% of his attempts. Mayfield does not look to run quite as much as he used to, but still has 158 yards on the ground this season. Their top back has been Rachaad White with 287 rush yards and four touchdowns. He will need to pick up extra carries this week as Bucky Irving is out for the Patriots game with an injury.
Emeka Egbuka continues his strong rookie season, as he has 562 yards and five receiving touchdowns in his first season out of Ohio State. Mike Evans will break his streak of 1,000-yard seasons, as he is still on the IR. The team has 25 sacks on the season, led by linebacker Yaya Diaby with four, and they have added another seven interceptions, led by cornerback Jamel Dean.

Out: WR Mike Evans, WR Chris Godwin Jr., RB Bucky Irving, LB Hasson Reddick
Questionable: OT Luke Haggard
Patriots vs. Buccaneers Picks
Spread pick and prediction for Pats vs. Bucs
- Buccaneers -2.5 (5 units)
Both of these teams are dealing with injuries, but the Tampa Bay injuries have been expected, while New England is going to have to adjust without two of their top offensive weapons. New England will be without Boutte on the outside, and Stevenson out of the backfield, this is a big problem for the Pats. Boutte has been an unexpected surprise, but an important cog in their offense, as the Tampa defense can now focus on Diggs and force Maye to look for other options. New England has also relies on the two-headed rushing attack out of the backfield, but now only have their rookie to rely on. Tampa Bay has dealt with their injuries over the past several weeks, and are coming off a bye week with plenty of time to prepare.
Take the Buccaneers to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Patriots vs. Buccaneers
- Under 48.5 (4 units)
These teams are both dealing with injuries to some of their top offensive talents, and will have to deal with limited options when they have the ball. Tampa Bay lost their top two receivers, and Bucky Irving is also gone from the backfield. Tampa Bay is not going to look to push the pace here, as they know they would rather win a low scoring game than get in a shootout. New England has focused on their defense all season, with Coach Vrabel relying on his side of the ball to win games. This is a high profile game, but will be a low scoring battle.
Take the under.
