New York looks for first win of 2025
The New York Giants came out of the gates flat in their season opener, on the road against the Commanders. The team, and veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, never got on track, and they fell 21-6 to the Commanders. The Giants scored single field goals in the third and fourth quarters and never got fully in sync.
“Obviously, six points it’s tough to win a game,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said. “We left 11 points out there in the red zone.”

Just 17-of-37 passes for 168 yards in the game. The Giants’ ground game never got going, with Wilson leading the team with just 44 yards rushing. Overall, the Giants averaged just 3.2 yards per carry on Sunday against the Commanders. Wide receiver Malik Nabers, despite a sore back, led the team with 71 yards receiving on five catches. The team finished just 4-of-16 on third down conversions. The Giants’ offense held the ball for 30:32 seconds in the game. They finished 0-for-2 in red zone chances.
The Giants will be spending plenty of time this week working on stopping the run. They gave up 220 yards on the ground to the Commanders, at a whopping 6.9 yards per carry. They were a bit better against the pass, allowing Washington 212 yards passing. Washington was an efficient 3-for-4 in red zone opportunities against the Giants’ defense.
Key Injuries: S Anthony Johnson Jr. is out. OT Andrew Thomas, WR Wan’Dale Robinson, WR Darius Slayton, and DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches are all questionable.
Cowboys hope for better results in Big D
The Dallas Cowboys did everything but finish the job in week one against the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. After being swept last year in two blowout losses by the Eagles, the Cowboys came ready to play and came within an ill-timed fumble and key dropped passes of finishing the job last Thursday night.
“I still think we can win a Super Bowl," first-year Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “It’s not going to change. I mean, we’ve got the right type of guys. We’ve got good players.”
In a game delayed by over an hour by lightning, the Cowboys were unable to get over the hump in a scoreless second half. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who missed both games last year after tearing his hamstring, finished 21-of-34 for 188 yards. The ground game, which struggled last year, seemed revitalized by rookie running back Javonte Williams. Williams rushed for two touchdowns and helped the Cowboys’ ground game, which averaged 5.4 yards per carry. Unfortunately, veteran running back Miles Sanders fumbled in the red zone to prevent another score. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had seven catches for 110 yards but had a critical drop down the stretch. Overall, the Cowboys were 7-of-11 on third down conversions and a perfect 2-of-3 in the red zone.
Defensively, the Cowboys felt the loss of recently traded All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons. Eagles quarterback Hurts broke containment consistently, resulting in two rushing touchdowns. In all, the Cowboys gave up 158 yards rushing and 144 yards passing. They were exposed in the red zone, allowing the Eagles to go a perfect 3-for-3 in red zone opportunities. The Cowboys were unable to force any turnovers and had four penalties for 42 yards.
Key Injuries: S Malik Hooker and CB DaRon Bland are questionable. DT Perrion Winfrey, TE John Stephens Jr., and CB Caelen Carson are out.

Point Spread Pick for Giants vs. Cowboys

Cowboys -5.5 (4 units)
The Cowboys come into this game well rested after playing last Thursday. That gave them time to make some adjustments on both sides of the ball, particularly on the defensive end. They should have an advantage against the Giants, given that the Giants come in after rushing for just 74 yards against the Commanders. Forced to be one-dimensional, the Giants will have trouble against the Cowboys. Wilson looked subpar against the Commanders, and rumors circulated right after the game that the team was considering rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart as the possible starter going forward. The Cowboys’ offense looked much better with Williams at running back, and I expect the chemistry between Prescott and WR George Pickens to get better by the week. The Cowboys will win this one comfortably.

Over/Under Pick for Giants at Cowboys
- Over 45.5 (4 units)
The Giants’ offense has to be better this week after producing just six points in week one. Wilson misfired on more than half his throws, and, other than Nabers, there was not a lot of separation against the Commanders. The Cowboys, however, were moving the ball at will before slowing down after the lightning storm. They’ll exploit the Giants on the ground with Williams and company, and then utilize play-action to find Lamb and Pickens. This one will soar past the number.
Take the over.
