Rookies leading Giants offense this season

New York is 2-5 overall this season. The Giants opened the season with three straight losses to Washington, Dallas and Kansas City. They secured their first win over the Chargers in Week 4. The Giants have lost two of their last three games. The lone win came against the Eagles in a 34-17 drubbing on Thursday, Oct. 9.

In their last game, the Giants lost 33-32 to the Broncos away from home on Sunday, Oct. 19. New York raced out to a huge lead before falling in the final moments heartbreakingly. The Giants led 19-0 entering the fourth quarter. They also earned a 26-8 lead with 6:00 left in the game. The Broncos scored 22 unanswered points. But, New York had another chance for a win as quarterback Jaxson Dart rushed for a touchdown with 37 seconds left, but a missed extra point gave Denver a chance. The Broncos marched down the field and won the game with a 39-yard field goal.

Dart threw for 283 yards on 15-for-33 passing. He threw for three touchdowns and one pick while he also added 11 rushing yards. Running back Cam Skattebo had a big game, rushing for 60 yards, too.

Since becoming the starting quarterback, Dart has thrown for 791 yards and 60% of his passes. He’s thrown for seven touchdowns and three picks. Skattebo has become the No. 1 rusher on the team, too. He has a total of 398 yards with five touchdowns, as both rookies have burst onto the scene. Since Malik Nabers’ season-ending injury, Wan’Dale Robinson has become the team’s top option at wide receiver.

In Week 6, the Giants defeated Philadelphia 34-17. It was a New York beatdown as their defense shut the Eagles out. Philadelphia went 1-for-9 on third down and the Giants' defense forced two turnovers.

"They've got the same tape that we've got,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said. “The difference is you had a short week the last time you played them, so you do a lot of preparation and watch a lot of tape. During that short week, you're trying to cram everything into a couple days. There's plenty of things that you put on a call sheet that don't get called throughout a game."

On defense, the Giants are led in tackles by Bobby Okereke with 60 tackles, 12 more than anyone else. Brian Burns has been excellent with nine sacks out of 15 total sacks. However, he's dealing with a hip injury and is listed as questionable. The defense has forced five turnovers on the year.

The Giants are averaging 21.9 points per game, which ranks 18th in the league. They are the 12th-ranked rushing attack, averaging 125.1 yards per game. New York is also the 18th-ranked passing offense, averaging 211.4 passing yards per game.

On defense, the Giants are allowing 25.3 points per game, which ranks 23rd. They are allowing 245.3 passing yards per game, which ranks seventh-worst. New York is the 24th-ranked rush defense, giving up 130.7 yards per game.

New York is 4-3 against the spread this season. The Giants have been underdogs in every game this season. The Giants are 2-0 against the spread when they have been underdogs of 7.5 points or more. The under is 4-3 when the Giants have played this year. The under is 2-1 when the total has been set at 44 points or more.

As of Friday, corner Paulson Adebo and defensive lineman Chauncey Golston are out for this game. Defensive lineman DJ Davidson and Burns are both questionable.

Eagles look for revenge over the Giants

Philadelphia is 5-2 this season. The Eagles are leading the division by a couple of games over the Cowboys and the Commanders. Philadelphia opened the season with four straight wins.  They struggled in Weeks 5 and 6 with back-to-back losses to Denver and the Giants.

In their last game, the Eagles defeated the Vikings 28-22 away from home on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Eagles never trailed in the game, but the Vikings kept the game close throughout. The Vikings cut Philadelphia’s lead 21-19 early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles iced the game with a Jalen Hurts passing touchdown to AJ Brown for 26 yards, which put the score at 28-19.

Hurts threw for 326 yards on 19-for-23 passing and three touchdowns. Saquon Barkley continues to struggle to find consistency as he rushed for 44 yards on 18 carries in the win. DeVonta Smith had a big game with nine catches for 183 yards and a touchdown.

This season, Hurts has thrown for 1,498 yards with 11 touchdowns and one pick. Barkley is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry and he has just three touchdowns on the year. The one-two punch of Smith and Brown has been great. They have combined for 900 yards and five touchdowns on the year.

The Eagles lost to the Giants 34-17 on Thursday, Oct. 9. The Eagles struggled to finish drives and they didn’t score a single point in the second half. The team turned the ball over twice which were killers.

“I don’t think we played our brand of football or coached our brand of football today. Give them credit. They did a good job,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said after their loss to the Giants. “That’s not to our standard in all phases, and in coaching. So we’ll look at it and we’ll get better from it.”

Philadelphia is averaging 24.3 points per game, which ranks 14th. They are the third-worst rushing offense, averaging 88.1 yards per game. The Eagles are the 22nd-ranked passing offense, averaging 198.7 yards per game.

On defense, the Eagles are allowing 23.6 points per game which ranks 20th. They are the 20th-ranked rush defense, allowing 127.9 yards per game. Philadelphia also ranks 19th in pass defense, giving up 221.3 pass yards per game.

Philadelphia is 4-3 against the spread this season. The Eagles are 1-2 against the spread when they have played at home. They have been favored in every game this season. The Eagles are 0-2 against the spread when they have been favored by 7.5 points or more. The over is 4-3 when Philadelphia has played. The under is 2-1 when the Eagles have played at home. The over is 3-0 when the total has been set at 44 points or less.

As of Thursday, wide receiver AJ Brown (hamstring), corner Adoree’ Jackson, center Cam Jurgens, and linebacker Azeez Ojulari missed practice. Tight end Grant Calcaterra, guard Landon Dickerson, defensive tackle Moro Ojomo and linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. were all limited in practice. *edit: Brown was listed as out on Friday.

Giants vs Eagles Spread Pick

  • Philadelphia Eagles -7.5 (5 units)

The Giants took it to the Eagles in their first meeting two weeks ago on Thursday night. The Eagles were in the fight during the first half before everything went off the rails in the second half. Philadelphia still leads the division and is coming off of a big road win versus Minnesota. The home field advantage will be paramount for the Eagles, and they will use to defeat New York and get their revenge. Jalen Hurts has been solid this season as the rushing attack has struggled throughout. Saquon Barkley did have his best game of the season against the Giants, and they will need him again to perform at a high level. The Giants are allowing over 130 yards rushing per game, so expect the Eagles to take advantage with Hurts and Barkley getting a lot of carries.

Last week, the Giants lost in horrific fashion to the Broncos, who mounted an unbelievable comeback. Brian Daboll is on the hot seat, and if the team doesn’t stick together, this could be a blowout win for the Eagles. Two rookies in Jaxon Dart and Cam Skattebo, will be thrown to the wolves in Philadelphia while they are also without Malik Nabers, due to a season-ending injury. It’s hard to see New York staying together in a hostile environment.

Take the Eagles to cover.

Giants vs Eagles Over/Under Pick

  • Under 44 points (5 units)

The defense was impressive from the Giants in their win over the Eagles two weeks ago. The defense was also very good through three quarters against the Broncos before their collapse. Things should come together once again for New York and slow down the Eagles this week. The Eagles' offense hasn’t been as efficient, but they will still get the job done and earn the wi,n albeit in a low-scoring affair.  The Giants will turn the ball over due to their rookie playmakers. This shouldn’t be a shoot-out in this game. The under is 2-1 when the Eagles have played at home. For the Giants, the under is 2-1 when the total has been set at 44 points or more.

Take the under on Sunday.
