New York Starts Their Rookie
The New York Jets are just 3-10 on the season, and have lost all hope in Justin Fields in terms of becoming their franchise quarterback. The team has opted to start Brady Cook, an undrafted rookie out of Missouri. He played last week against the Dolphins, completing just 14 of his 30 passes for 163 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. Cook was strong in college in the SEC, but he will need to prove he belongs in the league this week against the Jaguars.
Expect the Jets to rely heavily on their ground game in this one, as Cook completed under 50% of his passes last week. Breece Hall is their top back. He was mentioned in many trade rumors around the deadline, but he will finish this season out with the Jets. So far this year, he is 11th in the league in rushing with 877 yards and has three touchdowns. New York is hopeful he plays, as he is listed as questionable. No other back on the team has over 200 yards on the season.
Star receiver Garrett Wilson will remain out with his injury, and tight end Mason Taylor is also out, keeping their top two pass catchers in terms of yardage on the sideline. Tyler Johnson is the top active threat with 187 yards on ten catches as a 6β1 wideout. Their defense has 22 sacks, led by defensive end Will McDonald IV with seven. Every team in the NFL has at least five interceptions, except for the Jets, who have zero.

- Questionable: LB Quincy Williams, RB Breece Hall
Jaguars Top the South
The Jacksonville Jaguars have won five of their last six games and have taken over the top spot in the AFC South coming into this matchup with Cleveland. Many expected Indianapolis to control the division after their hot start, but their quarterback, Daniel Jones, tore his Achilles tendon, and now the Colts are battling for their playoff lives. The Jags are coming off a strong win over that Colts team, in a game where Trevor Lawrence passed for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
Lawrence has not yet blossomed into the superstar that was expected of him, but he will have another chance to rise to the occasion if the Jaguars make the postseason this year. Lawrence is averaging 221.5 passing yards per game, with an 18-11 TD-INT ratio. He is completing 59.5% of his passes and can run when needed, as he has 251 yards on the ground and has punched in five rushing touchdowns with his big frame. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. has a chance to top 1,000 yards on the season in this game, as he sits at 917 so far with seven touchdowns.
Brian Thomas Jr. is their top receiver, the second-year pro has 535 receiving yards on the year, but has only found the end zone once. Parker Washington is their second leading receiver, but is questionable for this game with a hip injury. Their defense has 25 sacks on the season, led by defensive end Josh Hines-Allen with seven. The team has 15 interceptions, with linebacker Devin Lloyd leading the way with five.
Injury Report for Jaguars
- Out: WR/DB Travis Hunter
- Questionable: WR Parker Washington, G Ezra Cleveland, T Walker Little
Jets vs. Jaguars Picks and Predictions
Spread pick and prediction for Jets vs. Jaguars
- Jaguars -13 (5 units)
Nobody ever wants to lay 13 points in an NFL game, but that is how bad this matchup is for the Jets, and the Jaguars will easily cover this number. Brady Cook is on the field, an undrafted quarterback who is completing under 50% of his passes so far. He will also be without the teamβs top two pass catchers for the season, and Breece Hall might not play. Pair this with Jacksonvilleβs need to win games in the tough AFC Playoff race, and the Jags will run up the score here. This 13-point spread seems like a big number, but the Jags have who three of their last four games by more than 13, and will do so again here.
Take the Jaguars to win and cover.
Over/Under Pick for Jets vs. Jaguars
- Under 41.5 (4 units)
The Jets will simply not score enough points in this one to help put this over the total. All the struggles the Jets will face on offense are listed above, so how are they expected to generate any points, their defense? It wonβt happen in the secondary, as the Jets are the only NFL team without an interception. New York will barely be able to move the ball, and once Jacksonville gets a healthy lead, they will play ball control and run out the clock to keep their stars healthy. Do not expect many points in Jacksonville on Sunday.
Take the under.
