New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins prediction

It’s a battle between winless teams on Monday, Sept. 29. Read our New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins prediction along with our other NFL Picks! The Jets are 0-3, and they are coming off of a close loss to the Buccaneers in their previous game. The Dolphins are also 0-3, and they were defeated by the Bills in their last outing, too. These two teams are desperate for a win and it will all come down to Monday night. Kick-off is set for 7:15 P.M. EST.

Justin Fields looking to return for the New York Jets

The Jets are 0-3 to start the season. They spent the season with defeats to the Steelers and the Bills to start the season. In their first road game, New York was unable to use some late-game heroics as they suffered another defeat.

In their last game, the Jets lost 29-27 to the Buccaneers on the road on Sunday, Sept. 21. The Jets trailed 23-6 entering the fourth quarter before they scored two touchdowns in the final three minutes to grab a 27-26 lead. The big highlight came from a blocked punt when it was picked up and returned 50 yards for a touchdown. But Baker Mayfield drove the Buccaneers down the field and secured the win.

Tyrod Taylor threw for 197 yards on 26-for-36 passing. He had two touchdowns and an interception in the loss. He played for the injured Justin Fields, who suffered a concussion in Week 2. Fields has been practicing this week and is set to return to the lineup in this game.

"We've got to find a way to get over the hump this week, find a way to get on the board," Wide receiver Garrett Wilson said on Friday. "It would be awesome [to have Fields back]. His energy on the field, he pops up after taking hits. All of that stuff is contagious. We're all excited for J to be back out there.”

New York is averaging 23 points per game, which ranks 16th in the league. They are the second-best passing attack with 144.7 passing yards per game. They rank 10th in rushing the ball, going for 127 yards per game on the ground.

On defense, the Jets are allowing 31 points per game, which ranks fourth-worst in the league. They are the 15th-ranked passing defense, giving up 207 passing yards per game. They are also the 23rd-ranked run defense, giving up 133 yards per game on the ground.

The Jets are 2-1 against the spread this season. They have been an underdog in every game this season. They are 1-0 against the spread when they have played on the road. The over is 2-1 when the Jets have played this year, too. The over is 2-0 when the total has been set at 43 points or less.

Defensive back Jarvis Brownlee and linebacker Jermaine Johnson did not participate in Friday’s practice. Defensive lineman Jay Tufele, wide receiver Josh Reynolds, running back Kene Nwangwu and safety Tony Adams were limited participants.

Dolphins looking to ride home field advantage

Miami is 0-3 this season. They struggled against Indianapolis with a 33-8 loss to the Colts in Week. They followed it by losing at home to the Patriots by 6 points. Nothing has gone the Dolphins' way in the early portion of the season.

In their last game, the Dolphins lost 31-21 to the Bills on the road on Thursday, Sept. 18. The Dolphins kept the game close, with the game tied 14-14 at halftime. But Miami couldn’t follow one of the Bills' late points. The Dolphins turned the ball over once in a key situation as the Bills' offense couldn’t be slowed.

Tua Tagovailoa leads the quarterback room with 575 passing yards while completing 69% of his passes. He’s thrown five touchdowns and four picks this year. De’Von Achane will be needed for a big performance as he is the team’s top running back, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Tyreek Hill continues to be a force, too. But the ball has to go to him in key spots.

“Well, anybody can play quarterback in this league then. I want to see anybody on the streets come and play quarterback," Tagovailoa said about criticism. "Cam is doing his thing for sure, but I think it's easier to be able to hold a clicker and talk about it that way or talk about what someone else is doing wrong when you're not going out and having to do the same as them.

Miami is averaging 18.7 points per game, which ranks 25th in the league. They are the sixth-worst rushing offense, going for 89.7 yards per game on the ground. The Dolphins are throwing for 192 passing yards per game, which places them 21st.

On defense, the Dolphins are allowing 32.3 points per game, which ranks dead last. They are allowing 225 passing yards per game, placing them 21st. Miami is the fifth-worst rush defense, allowing 145 yards per game on the ground.

The Dolphins are 1-2 against the spread this season. They are 0-1 against the spread as a favorite, while they have a 1-1 against the spread record as an underdog. Miami did cover last week as an 11-point underdog versus Buffalo. The over is 2-1 when the Dolphins have played this year. The over hit at 42.5 points against New England when they played at home.

Corner Storm Duck and corner Jason Marshall Jr. both missed practice on Friday. Darren Waller was also listed as a limited participant for Friday, too.

Jets vs Dolphins Picks

New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins Spread Pick

  • New York Jets +2.5 (5 units)

Both teams have struggled mightily through the first few games. They both keep turning the ball over while momentum has just been rolling against them. They both need a win and only one of them is going to get it in this game. The difference for me is going to be the Jets' defense. New York has a top-half defense in the league and their passing defense is elite with their quality corners. The Dolphins' passing offense has struggled and a few errant passes, and the Jets should be able to secure a turnover or two. Besides a defeat to Buffalo, the Jets' offense has moved the ball well, and only a few quality possessions will be good enough to cover and take the lead over a Dolphins team struggling to find an identity.

Take the Jets to cover.

Jets vs Dolphins Over/Under Pick

  • Under 44.5 (5 units)

These are two offenses that are still a work in progress, which will end with both teams missing the playoffs. Expect the defenses to control this game with very minimal big plays being allowed, as both quarterbacks have not been on the mark efficiently enough through the first month.

Take the under on Monday.
