Slow Start for Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Eagles have a 1-0 record, but they did not have a dominant showing in their first game while defending their Super Bowl Title. The Eagles hosted the Cowboys on Thursday night, not long after the news of the Micah Parsons trade came out. Many thought Philly would roll the Cowboys, but the game was tight with the Eagles only winning by four. The Eagles did not cover the spread in their opener, and are now listed as 1.5-point favorites on the road.
Jalen Hurts is back to attempt to lead the team to another Super Bowl trip. Last game, he passed for just 152 yards, but had a high completion rate as he connected on 19 of his 23 pass attempts. Hurts did not throw for a touchdown pass or toss an interception in Week 1. Hurts was their leading rusher with 62 yards on the ground, and ran two carries into the endzone for scores. Saquon Barkley was not far behind in rushing; he had 60 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown in the win.
The passing game was quiet; tight end Dallas Goedert had seven catches for 44 yards, while Jahan Dotson had three catches for 59 yards. Both DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown had under 20 receiving yards in the game. Jalen Carter will be back on the defensive line after missing the last game after spitting on Dak Prescott, while Cooper DeJean will be active in their secondary.

Chiefs Need a Rebound
The Kansas City Chiefs are never truly out of contention, and with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes back to lead the team, there are few concerns in Kansas City. Even if this game goes south, the Chiefs will still expect to make the postseason, but they will need to back up this arrogant belief on the field. The Chiefs got rolled relatively easily by the Chargers in their opener, and will need to play strong here against this elite Philadelphia team.
Patrick Mahomes is back at quarterback. Some say that Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson has passed him for the best quarterback in the league title, but Mahomes' three Super Bowl rings still weigh in heavily. In the first game of the season, Mahomes passed for 258 yards on 24-of-39 passing after trailing for much of the game. He also led the team in rushing with 57 yards on the ground. Kansas City did not get much out of their ground game, as their top rusher after Mahomes was Isiah Pacheco with just 25 yards from scrimmage.
The Chiefs will be without two of their top weapons in the passing game, as Rashee Rice is out with his suspension, and Xavier Worthy went down with an injury in Week 1. Travis Kelce will be available; he had two catches for 47 yards while taking one to the house. Hollywood Brown had 10 catches for 99 yards and will be the top target again on the perimeter. Drue Tranquill started off the season strong with two sacks from the linebacker spot.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs picks and prediction
Spread pick for Eagles vs. Chiefs
- Chiefs +1.5 (5 units)
The Chiefs at home as an underdog with a healthy Patrick Mahomes has to be an auto-fire on Kansas City in a revenge situation. Yes, the team is without two of their top wideouts, but they won a Super Bowl after they traded away Tyreek Hill, and Mahomes has proved he can make due with any capable hands on the perimeter. Hollywood Brown and Travis Kelce are veterans in the league. They may not have the big play potential they used to have, but they will still be able to eat up yards here. Philly struggled with Dallas in their opener, with Hurts passing for well under 200 yards. Andy Reid saw that tape and will make the right adjustments here.
Take the Chiefs with the points.
Over/Under Pick for Eagles vs. Chiefs
- Over 47.5
This is a middle-of-the-road type of line for a total, but these are two elite offenses that will fill up the scoreboard here. To start with, Philadelphia, obviously, Hurts and Barkley are going to pick up yards on the ground, but they have two elite receivers who were suspiciously quiet in the opener. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are not going to each go for under 20 yards, as the Philly staff will ensure they get more looks in the offense. Do not underestimate the Chiefs just because two of their top wideouts are out. Neither team was stellar on defense in Week 1, and this will be another over.
Take the over.
