Starting quarterback Brock Purdy is unlikely to play against Tampa Bay. Jones has started the past three games, but he is dealing with knee and oblique injuries. It looks like Jones will be able to play through the pain, according to him.
“[I'm] just getting treatment every day and working," Jones said. "I feel confident and just working through it day by day. That's all you can do."
With both quarterbacks sidelined, Adrian Martinez has been getting snaps with the first team this week. He’s been the backup quarterback to Jones through this stretch. Martinez has never played a regular-season game with San Francisco.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield made an 11-yard touchdown pass to Sterling Shepard to tie the game at 35-35 with 1:08 left.
“[He is] very underrated,” Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles said of Shepard. “One of our most underrated players, but one of our best players. He knows what to do, how to do it. He’s very tough. He can play inside, he can play outside. He’s done a great job blocking this year as well. He finds the open spots, and him and Baker [Mayfield] have a connection that way. He kept us in the game.”

Two of Mayfield’s big weapons will be missing in this game in wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are out with injuries. Thankfully, rookie Egbuka has been great. 49ers vs Buccaneers Picks
San Francisco 49ers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers Spread Pick
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3 (5 Units)
Tampa Bay has been on fire offensively as Baker Mayfield has put himself in the MVP discussion through the first part of the season. Yes, injuries to the wide receiver position may make this a difficult game, but the emergence of Emeka Egbuka has been fantastic. Last week, the offense was flying around and helped them secure a win over Seattle. The team will be more than comfortable at home to put up a big spot against a San Francisco defense that ranks 14th in pass yards allowed.
If this turns into a high-scoring game, the 49ers will not be able to compete. They don’t have a balanced attack as they have yet to score a rushing touchdown this season. Mac Jones was limited in practice this week with knee and oblique issues, but he is still expected to play. I’m considering this offense to be a little rusty with a lack of reps to key positions, as the Buccaneers will only have to worry about Christian McCaffrey in this game. Tampa Bay’s offense should unleash for a big win.
Take Tampa Bay to cover.
49ers vs Buccaneers Over/Under Pick
- Over 47.5 (5 units)
The offenses for both teams have carried them throughout the first five weeks of the season. Yes, defensive plays have been big, but scoring outputs have been fantastic. This total line is low because of the number of injuries to skill positions. With Baker Mayfield on one end and a Kyle Shanahan-led offense on the other, points will be flying across the board in quick succession. he over is 2-0 when Tampa Bay has played at home. The over is 2-1 when the total has been set at 44 points or more for Buccaneers games. The over is 2-1 when the 49ers have played on the road. For San Francisco, the over is 2-1 when the total has been set at 44 or higher.
Take the over on Sunday.
