The Seahawks eye their third straight W
The Seattle Seahawks (5-2; 5-2 ATS; 4-3 O/U) enjoyed a bye in Week 8, getting ready to extend their strong run of form. The Seahawks have gone 5-1 SU and ATS in their previous six outings. After stopping their three-game winning streak with a 38-35 home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Seahawks beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-12 on the road in Week 6 and the Houston Texans 27-19 at home in Week 7.

Seattle outgained Jacksonville 346-273 in total yards. Sam Darnold threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba had eight receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown. The Seahawks sacked Trevor Lawrence seven times, and DeMarcus Lawrence and Byron Murphy II posted two sacks each.
Against Houston, the Seahawks lost the turnover battle 4-1 and still found a way to come out on top. Seattle went 3-for-4 in the red zone while holding the Texans to 254 total yards. Darnold tossed for 213 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 123 yards and a touchdown, and Zach Charbonnet rushed 12 times for 49 yards and two scores.
“This game was about death zone football, OK,” Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said in his Texans postgame locker room speech. “Our style of ball. Having each other’s back. From the first down to the last down. That is a complementary ball.”
The Seahawks score 27.6 points per game (tied for 5th in the NFL). Darnold has thrown for 1,754 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions so far this season, while Smith-Njigba leads the NFL in receiving yards with 819. Running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet have combined for 635 rushing yards and eight touchdowns thus far.
On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks allow 19.4 points per game (7th) on just 75.7 rushing yards (1st) and 230.1 passing yards (23rd). They’ve amassed 23 sacks (tied for 5th) and 41 tackles for loss (tied for 9th) while posting eight interceptions (tied for 4th). Seattle has only allowed two rushing touchdowns through seven games (tied for 1st).
The Commanders hope to get Jayden Daniels back
The Washington Commanders (3-5; 3-5 ATS; 3-4-1 O/U) are on a three-game losing streak. After a tough 25-24 home defeat to the Chicago Bears in Week 6, the Commanders have dropped consecutive road games against the Dallas Cowboys 44-22 and the Kansas City Chiefs 28-7.
Two weeks ago, the Commanders’ defense fell apart against Dallas. DE Dorance Armstrong, the team’s sacks leader with 5.5, injured a knee on the opening drive of the game and didn't return. He’s done for the season. On the first possession of the second half, Jayden Daniels suffered a hamstring injury while losing a fumble. Marcus Mariota replaced Daniels just to throw a pick-six in his first drive.
Daniels missed last Monday’s loss against Kansas City. Mariota threw for 213 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. The Commanders couldn’t cope with the Chiefs’ defense and rushed 20 times for just 60 yards. KC outgained Washington 432-260 in total yards.
“Not capitalized on the turnovers, not winning our fourth downs, they did,” Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said. “It was great to see us get in some of the takeaways. That's been an emphasis of what we've been hitting on. But leaving here, you cannot leave that many opportunities out there.”
Terry McLaurin caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 8. McLaurin aggravated his quad injury that forced him to miss four games this season, and the two-time Pro-Bowl wideout won’t play against Seattle. Daniels is testing his injured hamstring. According to Dan Quinn, Daniels will have a full week of practice ahead of Sunday’s clash against the Seahawks.
Daniels has thrown for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns, and just one interception across five games this season. He’s rushed 44 times for 211 yards and a touchdown. Mariota has tossed for 639 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions through three starts and one relief appearance. He’s rushed 18 times for 122 yards and a TD. As for Friday, his status was leaning towards "starting" in this game. The main concern is the wide receiving corps with Terry McLaurin (quad) and Noah Brown (groin/knee) out
The Commanders score 23.4 points per game (17th in the NFL) and allow 24.8 points in return (21st). Their defense ranks 22nd in rushing yards (128.8 per game) and 26th in passing yards (244.0). Washington has amassed 22 sacks, 41 tackles for loss, and four interceptions through eight games.
Seahawks vs. Commanders Pick
Spread Pick for Seahawks vs. Commanders
- Seattle Seahawks -3.0 (5 units)
Even if Jayden Daniels suits up, I will take the Seahawks. Seattle doesn’t have any serious injury worries. The Seahawks are fresh off a bye, and I expect them to dominate the Commanders, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Moreover, the Commanders’ secondary is thin. Yes, they just intercepted Patrick Mahomes twice, but they also allowed Mahomes to throw for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Keep your eyes on Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who will torture the Commanders.
Smith-Njigba has scored a touchdown in each of his last three games. During that stretch, he’s posted 24 receptions for 417 yards. The Commanders have already allowed 15 touchdowns through the air.
The Seahawks are 3-0 SU and ATS away from home this season. They are undefeated in nine straight road contests, going 7-2 ATS in the process. The Commanders are 5-1 ATS in their last six home games, but they’ve only covered once in their previous five contests overall.
Over/Under Pick for Seahawks vs. Commanders
- Under 47.5 (5 units)
I’m not sure what to expect from the Commanders’ offense in this game. Jayden Daniels might return, but Terry McLaurin’s absence is a huge blow. Moreover, left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a hamstring injury last Monday, and his Week 9 status is up in the air. Tunsil didn’t practice on Wednesday.
The Commanders could easily struggle to get things going against the Seahawks, especially on the ground. Seattle’s run defense has been outstanding thus far. I will take the under and hope that Washington’s defense won’t fall apart. Seattle -3.0 remains my best bet for Week 9 Sunday Night Football.
